Football is the ultimate team sport but the QB gets too much praise when things go well and too much blame when things go south. And now you understand why I get so mad about one position getting paid so much.
PossibleCabbage
It feels like the best preventative for regression is "score more points than you did last year" which feels doable.

I saw an interesting fact yesterday and didn't know where I would post it but knew Outpost would have mentioned something recently which would make it relevant and was not disappointed... The QB with the highest cap hit in the league has not won a playoff game in the last decade. In eight of the ten years their team has missed the playoffs entirely. Just a little fuel for the fire. 🔥 🔥 🔥

Just a little fuel for the fire. 🔥 🔥 🔥 Shocking. I am shocked that the team who pays the most money to one person on a 53 man roster has not won a playoff game in in the last decade. I am also shocked that McCarthy got fired after two years in which Rodgers was among the highest paid and also shocked that he does not have any weapons on offense to help him. It’s almost like weapons cost money, too.

spilltray
This entire theory assumes the Packers relative talent level will remain static and their average % of close wins will drop closer or below the median average. The second part of that is statistically likely. The first part of that however is completely up in the air. If the Packers manage to re stock at WR and front 7 interior without any other significant holes developing, they could easily end right back at the top of the NFC. Even base improvements year 1 to year 2 could offset the close wins.

MacReady
Man, everybody was so down on the Packers last year because of close wins, but watching the games I felt like overall coaching is what got us to win those close ones. Under McCarthy we found ways to lose close games. We found ways to lose the games we had a chance at coming back in like both Lions games. LaFleur seemed to have a great feel for the pulse of those close games and made all the right decisions. In spite of a QB with very little clutch.
