Geezy
first off, i like Richard but hes no Charlie Garner. Love the resigning and gives us our 3D RB. Now pick up a bruiser and were set at RB.
Rich7sena
To be honest I don't love this. I would have liked to see the Raiders add a more versatile player to the offense that can be both a true backup to Jacobs (Washington) and a complementary pass catcher (Richard). agarcia34
He always seemed like the logical RB to bring back cause Gruden trust him on 3rd downs. Just keep him off the field on running downs.
OG_C2X
Love this move. Mayock is following the blueprint. Let's keep the good time rolling.

Dude Richard is a perfect 3rd down back, what makes you think they wont add a RB. Washington is the odd man out. Chali21
I’d honestly rather have Jacobs on all 3 downs. I feel like when he’s in the lineup it tips the hand that the Raiders are going to passes.

Oh I agree but I wouldn’t want them to take Jacobs out as much as they did this past year. If it’s 3rd and 2 and you see #30 come in your aren’t going to crowd the line as much as you would with Jacobs.
jimkelly02
I’m very happy Richard will be back. He’s a very good 3rd down back who has a great rapport with Carr. Richard isn’t just a guy who gets check downs in the flat. He’s shown he can actually run routes down the field. Also, Carr really trusts him and Richard made some clutch plays for us. Im hoping we sign him to a 2-3 year deal at $3.0M, max $3.5M. If recent signings of Lawson ($1.7375M) and Good ($2.5M) are any indication, Mayock and company will get him resigned for a good price. I recently read that due to not having a CBA contract in place past next season, teams are expected to curb spending in free agency this year. I think this could have a slight advantage for us as next season we don’t have many major players hitting free agency (Lee, Hankins, Harris, Good, Whitehead, Kizer, Carrier, Zay Jones, Lawson).

Plus, it's not like Jacobs can't handle passing-down duties like Derek Henry.

I think it's whatever. I'd have re-signed Washington because he was a better runner this season but i think the plan is to find a guy to take carries off Jacobs to shift some of his workload to the passing game. That guy is neither Richard nor Washington. Hopefully, that's adressed with one of our 3rd/4th rd picks.
Blazer026
Assuming Washington is fine then. Which is fine, him and Richard are pretty similar.

Tipping the defense off, if we were to sub in a big power back, is why I’d prefer drafting someone more similar than different to Jacobs. I like AJ Dillon in rounds 5-6 but fear if you bring in a guy like that who isn’t a viable pass catcher initially the defense is going to know it’s a run. Ideally, next year Jacobs gets 15 carries a game (240/year) with our RB2 getting 6-7 carries (100/yr) and Richard getting 4-6 per game (80/yr). Also, Jacobs would be catching 35-45 catches per year, up from 20. We need to better utilize him in the passing game, without reducing Richards role to do so.
