I thought I read or heard on the radio that the Redskins were already going to pick up Adrian’s contract for this year.

I’ll be absolutely shocked if Kerrigan isn’t on this team in a Chris Long type role (from when he was in Phila). As John points out, Snyder loves Kerrigan and while Kerrigan isn’t what he was 4 or 5 years ago, having him as a 3rd down/nickel pass rush specialist from either DE or 3 technique on 3rd downs is definitely something that would be good.

I would hope that if he restructures his contract though that he isn’t going to be making $11 mil a year again though bc he’s not worth that much.

Jesus Christ, why do you insist on ignoring the point over and over again? I didn’t compare him to Amerson. I said the situations could be similar. Both went into the season as top 10 talents that fell, or could fall in the case of Delpit, out of the first round. Nowhere did I say they were comparable players. They don’t even play the same position.

Delpit sucks.  Can’t tackle, bad angles.  He’s going to bust.

I’d be all over this for a conditional 6th of a pick swap of some sort if we can’t sign Hooper. Like Reed, Njoku had his fair share of injuries as well so he definately wouldn’t be my first option at the position

If you can get some draft assets for Kerrigan it’s silly to keep him. Send him to the Ravens for a third so he can at least stay in the area because he seems to enjoy it but extending his contract makes no sense whatsoever for a team that’s building a young, dynamic defense.

I think you are exactly right that about all we would get is 3rd round pick unless we traded him in season to a needy team making a run.  The chances that a 3rd round pick gives you any where near the same production as Kerrigan is a huge reach.

Not trading Kerrigan is a mistake.

Ryan Anderson can be a decent 3rd DE, Allen or Ioannidis could plug in at LE in run situations, and you could draft a pass-rush specialist in the later rounds to spell Young or Sweat in obvious pass downs.

Kerrigan would be good in that Chris Long type role — but when the options are playing out the last year at $11.2M and then hitting FA or extending him at age 32? It becomes a lot less appealing. When you’re choosing one of those unappealing contract options and sacrificing perhaps a 3rd round pick that you could get in trade for him as well, it really doesn’t make a ton of sense.

I like Kerrigan, so I won’t be too upset if he’s out there for us next season. But it’s not good roster management. It’s a move based on sentimentalIty, not the best long-term interests of the roster. We pretty much know what Kerrigan will be giving us 3 years from now — nothing — but that 3rd round pick could be a contributor on a really cheap contract.

This is where I'm at. He's one of my favorite players on the roster (only current Redskin I have a jersey of). But the smart move is to do what is right for the team going forward. And it might be a good move for him if we can trade him to a team that wins the SB.

The production Kerrigan gives you as a 3rd DE getting occasional pass-rush snaps, coming off a 5 sack season, playing a new position, at age 32?

3rd DE is a meaningful position, and Kerrigan would be a great option for the spot. But at that salary number and at his age? I think we need to err on the side of cashing him out “too soon” instead of waiting until it’s too late to get anything for him. He could go play for a contending team, we could get an extra pick to add a WR or TE or CB or OLB who would have a real shot at developing into a starter.
