Magic: the Gathering - War of the Spark Mafia -GAME OVER - The Gatewatch defeats Nicol Bolas!

Whicker

Recommended Posts

Whicker had arrived on the Ravnica plane. All the planeswalkers had been called here. He wasn't sure if it was just another trap set by his twin brother, but regardless, this would be their final stand. His brother had used an ancient artifact called The Immortal Sun to trap planeswalkers and a powerful spell called The Elderspell to harvest their sparks, ending their lives in the process. If he was able to harvest enough sparks, he would become immortal. Whicker had assembled a strong team of allies. A group of planeswalkers dedicated to helping the people of the Multiverse. They called themselves The Gatewatch.

Whicker soon arrived at his brother's citadel. A ritual of some sorts was already taking place. His brother stood proudly atop the citadel; his wings stretched wide. A slender figure with blue skin and metal robes was walking towards him. Behind him was a young teenage boy trapped in a stasis field. "For you, Master," the figure said as he bowed and presented the boy. Whicker saw his brother put his claw up to the boy's chest. A purple mist began to form as the boy screamed.

Whicker couldn't take it anymore. Screw the plans. He flew towards his brother as fast he could, knocking him from his perch. The two grappled in the air; their clash catching the eye of everyone on the plane. Whicker soon got the upper hand, and slammed his brother to the ground. "This is it," he thought as he moved in to finish the job.

"You're too late!" His brother bellowed as he rose from the ground. "I've already harvested enough sparks. I have ascended. I am now Nicol Bolas, Dragon God." He flew at Whicker with a powerful spell that the Multiverse had not yet seen. Whicker barely had enough time to speak before his body was disintegrated from the blow.

@Whicker is dead. He was Ugin, the Spirit Dragon (Gatewatch aligned)

Now, with Whicker gone, only his allies, The Gatewatch, can save the Multiverse from sure destruction...

Start of Day 1

Quote

Kingseanjohn had been through some tough times. Orphaned at a young age, the one positive from his parent's death was the eruption of his magical powers. Extremely adept at defensive magic, kingseanjohn was put through rigorous training regimes. One of them resulted in his spark and plansewalk to Ravnica.

Of course, with his luck, he traveled to a plane stuck in a brutal war. An evil dragon was laying waste to the land, and somehow he had been recruited to fight against him. He never wanted this, but, despite not understanding his new powers, knew he had to put them to good use. He found the courage to run out into that battlefield with his shield raised high.

But somehow, something had gone wrong. It was all a blur to him. He remembers trying to protect a friend; scared for his life. And then nothing. Now he was floating in a stasis field awaiting his fate.

A massive dragon filled the sky above him. He knew this was Nicol Bolas. He had never seen him face to face before. Kingseanjohn was filled with dread.

Nicol Bolas put his claw down on kingseanjohn's chest. A purple haze appeared, and kingseanjohn slumped over dead.

@kingseanjohn is dead. He was Teyo, the Shield Mage

Who's next?” Nicol Bolas asked as he arose from kingseanjohn's dead body. He glanced over at the stasis field next to him. Inside floated a large golem.

Ah yes, Master. This one was caught working on some artifacts for The Gatewatch. He was the one who stole the spark-detecting goggles from our Izzet friends.”

Bolas laughed. “You cost me quite the army with that one,” he said as he menacingly stared into MD4L's eyes. “I've got a special spell for you.” A ball of energy appeared in his hand. It was the last sight MD4L would see.

@MD4L has been exiled. He was Karn, the Great Creator

A chaotic, emotional, and power hungry individual, SirA had always admired the Gruul way of life. He was always a bit on the small side, though, and he had been constantly rejected by the clans. Nicol Bolas changed all of that. SirA had seen him topple Vitu-Ghazi Elemental, and he knew immediately he wanted to be on the dragon's side. Bolas himself noticed the confidence yet naivety in the young boy, and he took him in.

But that was a while ago. Bolas, it seemed, had long forgotten about young SirA. He was growing in power, and he no longer needed the destructive Gruul Clans to assist him in tearing down Ravnica. So when The Elderspell was cast, Bolas cared very little that his young admirer got caught up in the blast. In fact, it was something he didn't even know he wanted.

@SirA1 has been killed! He was

(0) Choose a player. You will attempt to kill that player.

(-4) Choose up to two players. You will attempt to kill those players.

Orca was deep in meditation. He knew that this war was going to be won with his mind. The rest of the planeswalkers could all summon their creatures or use their great battle skills to keep Bolas at bay, but not Orca. He was just going to sit here and use his telepathy to find it all out. Some of these planeswalkers were working with Nicol Bolas, and he was going to figure out who.

He closed his eyes and sunk further from reality. He was soon traveling the minds of the planeswalkers, looking for any alignment hints. He gasped as he discovered another truth.

However, when he opened his eyes, he was suspended in a stasis field. Above him was a small figure. He recognized her immediately. “Why?” he asked her. She said nothing as she plunged her magical dagger into Orca's heart.

@The Orca has been assassinated! He was

(-2) Choose a player. You will learn that player's alignment.

(-6) Choose a player. You will learn how many non-town players were on that player's lynch wagon that day.

Dome had been keeping a safe distance from it all. He wasn't a fighter. He was a scientist. A researcher. All he cared about was the truth. There was no reason to interfere and put himself in danger. He had a family to get back to!

But this one was a little bit too big. There would be no discoveries to make if Nicol Bolas controlled the Multiverse! So he kept peering through that looking glass, waiting for that moment.

However, he hadn't realized how big of a threat he had made himself to the dragon. Bolas was nearing god-hood. He was as strong as he wanted to be. But the knowledge he still feared. Dome soon awoke in his laboratory to find his scrolls all missing. He panicked and ran outside. His way was blocked by a big dragon. In some way, Dome cared more about his scrolls being burned than his own spark being ripped away.

Swag had always fought for freedom and justice. Abused and tortured at a young age, he had grown into a powerful warrior knight with a multitude of army building and bolstering spells. He had not heard of the Gatewatch, but he, like others, had received the distress call from the Interplanar Beacon. This was the perfect war for him.

Swag was right in the thick of it all. His massive swordspear, Godsend, tore through Bolas' army easily. His soldiers fought valiantly. He felt in command of the war.

But even Swag was not an infallible general. Nicol Bolas had tricked him. He and his soldiers thought they had the opportunity they had been waiting for. They marched straight into Bolas' Citadel. None of them returned.

Not much had been know about Matts. He had answered the distress call from the Interplanar Beacon like so many of the other planeswalkers in this war, but this was his first encounter with the Gatewatch. All that was known was that he was adept at controlling magic.

Unfortunately Matts let an opportunity slip by him. Missing a move early on in the war, he set himself up for failure. Like so many others, he fell into Bolas’ trap.

@Matts4313 has been killed! He was

Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor (Gatewatch aligned)

Touch had come a long way since his childhood. He will always remember that moment. Of being scared and alone. Not knowing what was going on. But then also having to accept your responsibility in it all. His parents and his home. Just gone forever.

But over the years, he had grown to be in control of his fire. Through rigorous training and force of will, he had grown into a very powerful planeswalker. Ravnica and the War of the Spark presented that opportunity to him. The opportunity to show all of the Gatewatch that he was among their strongest.

This time, however, it all circled back to his childhood. Where one uncontrolled emotional outburst burned a whole city to the ground. He did it again. He saw what he felt was a golden opportunity, and he couldn't wait to pounce. It was a trap, however, and soon Touch's spark had been harvested along with the others.

The Gatewatch stood around Rackcs. This was their moment. Despite all their losses, this war was about to come to a close. They all moved in on him, ready to finish the job.

You fools!” Rackcs shouted. He spread his wings and broke through the spells holding him in place. He flew into the air, revealing himself as Nicol Bolas, Dragon God

Joshstra was sick at the recent news. Nicol Bolas had completely destroyed his home plane, and he had been ready to finally get justice for it. He needed his revenge.

So he sneaked out alone in the middle of the night. He didn't need those other planeswalkers. He was a master tracker and hunter. He had this.

Unfortunately, he had been a little too ambitious. And he was soon in Bolas' clutches.

Squire was in command of this war. Despite losing several allies, he had a strong Elf army behind him. Just because Nicol Bolas got away from him once didn't mean this thing was over. He was almost giddy to get to do it again. He knew the dragon feared him. He went to bed the night after Bolas' escape with confidence.

However, he awoke to a figure standing over him, knife raised. He knew how this was going to end.

Malfatron was feeling very comfortable. It seemed as if his Master was winning the War of the Spark, and he had been the most loyal of his servants. No one could touch him.

So he decided to branch out. He had been working on his stasis magic, and he was looking to put the final blow into the Gatewatch.

Unfortunately, for him, the Gatewatch proved more resourceful than he thought. He was soon surrounded. “You will not defeat him!” He shouted. “He is all powerful!”

Those were his final words.

MWil had always embraced the Golgari way of life. The embrace of death of destruction from black. The renewal and growth of green. Sacrifice for the greater good.

So when it was his time to sacrifice for his Master, he did not hesitate. There is no more of a fitting end for the Queen of the Golgari

Wolf had mixed feelings. On one hand, he had promised the Gatewatch that he was going to use his command of the sea to help defeat Nicol Bolas, but he had failed to help due to some powerful stasis magic    It made him sad as he expected to be one of the great heroes of the war.

On the other hand, his allies continued once again to prove their resourcefulness. Now, eight of the ten Ravnica guilds were back under Gatewatch control, and Bolas’ power was weakening.

Unfortunately, this was still a war, and there were still casualties to come. And even more unfortunately for Wolf, Nicol Bolas had him next on the list.

Start of Day 7

Quote

Nazgul had made his living off of being invisible. Able to become partially incorporeal, his ability to slip through walls without a trace led him to develop a strong reputation as an undetectable assassin. This reputation made him perfect to lead the Orzhov Syndicate, and Nicol Bolas was more than happy to enable him.

As Bolas' top assassin, he knew his importance in the war. His guild was one of only two left that still supported his Master. His current mission might be the turning point of the war that was now slipping away from them. He knew the risk, but he slipped into the Gatewatch's headquarters, ready to make a big move. Unfortunately for him, the Gatewatch was onto him, and he was unable to make it out alive.

Gopher had no doubts that the Gatewatch was going to win the War of the Spark. Even better, he was ecstatic that he had played a major part in it. Always tormented throughout her life for her werewolf condition, she was relieved to know that she and her wolves were finally able to make a difference in the Multiverse.

One night, however, she felt uncomfortable. Her wolves howled and howled around her. Some of them whimpered. Something unusual was going on.

He ventured out into the darkness and began to feel a great strength around him. He grew apprehensive as he could not transform. A gust of wind blew over his head and he looked up to see Nicol Bolas hovering above him. He was calm, but he knew how this was going to end.

The Gatewatch prepared to move out onto Nicol Bolas. On their way out, a dragon stopped their way. “Whicker?” they all asked. “We thought you were dead!”

You fools!” Whicker's spirit bellowed. “Have you not been reading my narration? I've tried to hint to you as much as I can! Nicol Bolas cannot be killed until all Ravnica guilds are under Gatewatch control!”

The Gatewatch looked around at each other, disappointed. They were certain this had been the end of the war. “Let's regroup,” one of them said to the group. “Where's Daboyle?” They all looked around.

It turned out that Daboyle had missed the memo. He decided to go and take on Nicol Bolas anyway. It did not end well for him
