Quinton Dunbar no OTA's

LOL.  So what has changed?

Bruce Allen and Daniel Snyder were the deciders.  Allen as de-facto GM and Snyder as the owner.  Allen is gone.  Also gone is Eric Schaeffer, who was the chief legal officer and cap specialist, who wouldn't necessarily have much contact, if any, with players.  Allen had the reputation of being very anti-player if you will.

In comes Ron Rivera as the de-facto GM, as well as head coach.  If he and his group of people can not make a consensus decision, Snyder is the one who steps in.  There were some promotions in the personnel department, but no one has left.  According to Dunbar, none of them have reached out.

On the coaching side, that also means that Rivera (who has full authority regarding personnel) hasn't reached out about his contract, despite being on the job since before the new year, nor has Jack Del Rio, who is probably about as far down the food chain as you can go for contacting a player about his contract status.

Not contacting a guy who could be considered a #1 corner about his contract situation by a new coaching staff who have been on the job for a month and a half already is absolutely ridiculous.  No wonder Dunbar went the "trade me or release me" route.  It's once again proving that the team doesn't care about the players.

Allen was a symptom of the disease.  Until the disease is cured or cut away, nothing is going to change.  And you all know who the disease is.

9_9

Rivera has said multiple times he and his staff were doing a full roster evaluation before making any roster decisions.  He said today would be the day they get back together and start comparing their roster evaluations and identifying their "core" guys.  If Dunbar can't even wait a month after the SB (still way before OTA's) to wait to hear from the new staff before throwing a hissy fit, how is that Rivera's fault?  Give me a break.

Well this is...disappointing.

And it’s what happens when the league lets guys call the shots about where they will (or won’t) play when they’re under contract. I don’t understand why these guys think that announcing this stuff publicly is beneficial to them — it instantly lowers their trade value, making it less likely that the team determines that it’s in their interest to do a deal — but I sure do hate it.

My immediate reaction is that, much like Trent, I’d like to get rid of him — simply because I don’t think you win with this sort of “me making sure I get my money is the only thing matters” attitude on the team. But it’s going to be awfully tough to add one starting CB this offseason, let alone two.

In my mock offseason a couple weeks ago, I suggested extending Dunbar. It was a 4/$40M deal, but it wouldn’t have included that much guaranteed money because of his injury history. I don’t know how anyone could give him — or how he could demand with a straight face — a ton of guaranteed money when he’s had so many nagging injuries. He’s been a starter for two seasons, and he’s missed 14 of the 32 games in those two seasons. The goal was to kind of front-load the deal (as we’ve got more cap space now than I think we will in 2-3 years), but I don’t think I’d do that for him now. Can’t trust him.

I'm always suspicious of "advanced metrics" that claim a player was elite, yet when you look at the product of the whole the defense didn't perform that well.  Was Dunbar terrible?  No.  Was he an elite level player like PFF was trying to tout all year?  I don't think so either.

I think he was very good. He got destroyed against the Eagles in week one, and I thought the guy was crashing back to earth after breaking out last year. But he played really well after that. If it wasn’t for the injuries, I’d be okay paying him low CB1 money.

But I can’t forget about the injuries, and I’m guessing that’s Rivera’s concern as well.

Wonder what we could get for him. My guess would be probably not enough to feel good about it. I’d really be disappointed with anything less than an early 3rd, and I’m not sure we’d get that for a one-year rental that would basically require an immediate extension.

I remember Dunbar saying how he owed Gruden his career after the firing. I get that he’s loyal to the guy. What I don’t see is how this helps him with the new staff in any way possible. It ruins his trade value, and there’s no way Rivera will handle his first disgruntled player by running to the check book. Whatever, if he wants out so bad get rid of him

Like you say, I’m sure Rivera is not liking this situation at all. I’m sure Dunbar won’t be considered one of Rivera’s core players.

I would prefer we keep him and am comfortable giving him a raise up to market rate.  I hope Rivera deals with this quickly.  But if we can't make it copacetic, then I hold onto him until we get a good trade offer even if that takes until the deadline.  He is a starting corner, fairly young, he will be wanted.

Trade him now while hes worth something

He could land a 1st also 28 is old for a cb specially one with a history of injury

Unless we can get him for a reasonable deal but he is only around for 8 to 10 games a year

That and he saw what happened to Josh Norman when Norman came to DC and had to fit into a difference scheme.

Except Dunbar has played in two different schemes already. Norman became what he is now because he cared more about being a celebrity then he did a football player. They should’ve cut him last year.

The two schemes were very similar. Oh and in the most recent scheme, he became a very good corner.

He's played 11+ games every season except one.

I think we’d get a 3rd at best for Dunny in a trade, not worth trading him IMO. He's a #2 corner on most teams. I don't think he should make over $10 million a year.

The Redskins have to call his bluff this year, he’ll play - he doesn’t have TWill $. The Redskins can franchise Dunbar in 2021 - if he earns it - and get 2 years out of him. When he’s 30 in 2022 - cya.
