Biggest non-QB bust?

Well yeah, his expectation were pretty high. But a lot of that had to do with the way the Saints played him.

Thing is, we saw those expectations somewhat met when Darren Sproles was the most exciting player in New Orleans - he was doing everything that Bush was supposed to do.

So even if you look at how Bush was used - you see him not really hit the higher notes that Sproles did.

He's probably not an "All Time" bust, but one of the more disappointing #2 overall picks to be had.

IMO it's hard to say a guy is a "bust" when he plays 10 years in the league and is an average starter and contributor to a Super Bowl, even if he drastically underachieves. Bush certainly never lived up to the billing, but he's not a "bust" like some of those guys drafted every bit that high and never played much/if at all or were out of the league altogether soon thereafter. It's the same rationale that I'd use for Robert Gallery (#2 overall), who busted at OT, but was a solid OG and starter in the NFL for a while.

See:

Art Schlichter

Kijana Carter

Trent Richardson

The dude went to another team, and managed to have negative yardage for an entire season, and it wasn't like he was 45 years old either.

Don't try to defend him.

What's your beef with Reggie Bush? He had a relatively lengthy and productive career that would befit a late first round or second round pick. So he was a disappointment for the no.2 selection but he really isn't comparable with the other players in this thread.

Look up Mike Williams, the offensive tackle. I was doing pest control sales for a summer in the Virginia Beach area in 2013 and he was my first-ever customer.

This guy was considered a GENERATIONAL left tackle prospect and was considered the top prospect in the 2002 NFL draft. He was a right tackle at Texas, but teams saw him as a left tackle because Chris Simms, his QB, was left-handed. Anyways, this guy was extremely physically-talented, but he took the money.

In casual conversation he just brought up that he had awful work ethic and thought that because he was so good that he didn't have to try. Then he got in over his head and it was impossible to recover.

After disastrous play with the Bills and Jaguars, he was out of the league. He said that was his wake-up call. The Redskins said they'd give him a shot a couple years later and so he dropped 70 lbs to get back into shape. He started at guard and actually played really well. Right after he got going, he had a pulmonary embolism and was forced to retire. Talk about bad luck!

He said that you NEVER let an opportunity pass you up, and NEVER rest on your laurels, because the next thing you know, you've squandered away your dreams.

Doesn't matter whether or not he's worse than the other guys in this thread.

He was taken too high for the little that he produced, so he is a definitive NFL bust.

Reggie Bush was more overdrafted than a bust. He had his uses. He would have been considered a hit if he was drafted in the second or third round.

The hype of what he was in college and what he was expected to be, in comparison to what he ended up producing he's definitely a bust.

He wasn't even very productive even until a bit later in his career but you have to give props to him for being humble and carving out a niche use as a 3rd down back.

This thread is for the biggest non-QB busts.

It very obviously does matter. I get you just want this chance to vent on someone you seem to hate to an irrational level but he really isn't in the same category as these other players.

Bush was taken too high given how his career turned out. But he still had a decently long NFL career. Other guys ITT can’t even say the same.

Carter got hurt. He wasn't a bust. See someone like D.J. Dozier, the RB the Vikes took in 1987 in Round 1. Now there's a bust. He was really good in college, and didn't do anything in the NFL.
