Why does there seem to be more confidence with Drew Lock being 'the guy' for Denver over Dwayne Haskins in Washington?

The Falcons were the 20/23rd defense in points/yards counting all season.

• They gave up 28 the week before because turnovers led to 21 yard and 41 yard Vikings TD drives.
• The next week they gave up 27 to a Colts team that was 3-2 at the bye including beating the Chiefs.
• The following week they gave up 24 to Tennessee (the weaker Mariota version)
  • 2 of those TD drives started on the Titans 40 and 45 yard lines.

The Falcons gave up 1299 yards in their first 4 games or 325 per game. 

• That pace would have them as the 9th best team in yardage allowed.
  • Practice squads are now better than 23 NFL teams by this staggering logic

Again, your AGENDA does not fit REALITY

 

The Falcons got absolutely annihilated in Houston but that was 1 game.

• They gave up 400+ yards in 2 other games.

They were not that bad in the other 13 (including holding Brees to 9 points in week 10)

• They were not a horrific D like the Lions after trading Diggs
• They were not a joke like the Cardinals or Dolphins.
  • The Giants D was close to a joke but I have not factored in turnover machine Daniel Jones' impact on field position so maybe they were just awful.
• They were not even the worst D in their division (Carolina)

There was a big difference for the Falcons pre-bye and post-bye. It was like night and day.

The September Falcons gave up 24.8 points and 325 yards per game.

The October Falcons gave up 37.7 points and 434.3 yards per game.

The Eagles game was on September 15th.

Before the Bye, the Falcons also played Minnesota who just ran it down their throats, Brissell and Mariota. The october months, they got Watson, Murray, Goff and Wilson in shootouts. But the biggest thing to look at is the pass rush actually came alive against the Eagles. The only game it actually did come alive.

Wentz was an awful  6 of 16 for 51 yards 0 TDs and 2 picks in the first half including a really ugly force-McCown-off-the-field bit on the last drive.

• That's a rating of 7.03.

 

He was 19 for 27  for 180 yards 1 TD no picks for a rating of 100.9 in the second half 

He also had a rushing TD, a 2 point conversion pass, and a 2-point conversion run that the refs took away because he dove forward as a QB. (otherwise a FG ties it at the end)

• This includes Agholor dropping a game winning 60 yard TD perfectly placed in his hands.

 

He did this under constant pressure as noted above.

He did this with a pair of RBs who had 18 rushes for 46 yards at  2.56 per carry each with a long run of 5 yards.

 

What Wentz did in that 2nd half was amazing. Too bad Agholor was paid 9 million last year to suck.

 

Anyone who points to that game as a criticism of Wentz as a QB is clueless.

Holy bad faith batman.

1. Performance pre-bye and post-bye was significantly different which muddies their total rating on defense. Keep in mind, they ended up 23rd in points allowed, but only after the improvement in the second half of the season. Their points allowed after the bye: 9, 3, 35, 26, 20, 22, 12, 22. This was a huge leap ahead of the performance in the first 8 games which was: 28, 20, 27, 24, 53, 34, 37, 27.
2. After the first 8 games they were giving up scoring drives at a clip of 57%. Before the bye, they only had four turnovers all season! (The Eagles owned two of those, for what it's worth).
3. Before the bye, the Falcons legitimately had a shot at having the fewest amount of sacks for an NFL team in NFL history until the pass rush improved significantly. Before the bye week, they only had 7 sacks. They had played more games than they had sacks - and it honestly wasn't inconceivable to be the only team in NFL history to not have double digit sacks as a team.
4. Name me dudes on the Falcons defense that could play on the Ravens practice squad. There aren't many.

I don't agree with this at all. Looking at the games the Falcons won in the 2nd half of the year, I still see wide open WRs that just aren't being thrown accurate passes. In both Carolina games Kyle Allen had wide open dudes all day but couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. The pass rush wasn't necessarily good, but I thought it was actually the strongest component of the defense. Even the game in New Orleans that we won, Brees could have definitely hit some WRs that he failed to. I don't really think the secondary was truly winning their matchups in those games - it seemed like they were much closer to being exposed if the QB had just a little bit more time.
