naptownskinsfan
Mel Tucker's jump from Colorado to Michigan State has been much publicized, but what does it mean for the Pac-12? Quite a bit actually. I was reading an article about it, and it just highlights the growing gap between the Pac-12 and the other Power Five conferences. First, money. That MSU could double Tucker's salary with Colorado and met without resistance highlights a huge problem there. The difference between media revenue was listed as $17 million per school. That the Pac-12 network has under-delivered plays into this as well. Second, coaching turnover. In the last three years, nine coaches at eight schools have turned over. Three this year, and only the SEC was higher. To add to that, Clay Helton somehow remains at USC, which is the flagship school for the Pac-12 and just had it's worst recruiting year in history. Chris Pedersen is out at Washington, and Mike Leach out at Washington State. Utah may only have Kyle Whittingham for another season or two. Only a select number of schools will have the money to bring in a top tier coach. Third, the Pac-12 has only provided two playoff teams since the inception of the playoffs, which hurts their chances at retaining west coast talent. What are your thoughts on the Pac-12 as they currently are? What hope do they have to remain relevant?
pf9
I can tell you the Pac-12 had more good teams than the ACC last year. Entering November, the Pac had 2 playoff contenders left, but the ACC only had one.
Texansfan713
They just need to add Boise and Houston and call it a day.

tom cody
There's some decent teams there but I don't know if there's a true superior team there for this year.
MikeT14
You can't hold this to just football either, they've been lacking in basketball recently too, top to bottom.
broncosfan07
Larry Scott is an idiot.

If only there was a morbidly obese degenerate they could stick in Colorado to just ham it up with the co-eds and get messed up on a regular basis all while looking like a human garbage can. Danger
1. SEC 2. B1G 3. Big XII 4. ACC 5. Pac-
catcheryea
the pac 12 is the most fun conference to watch but it makes sense to me why a bunch of illinois, wake forest, and kansas state fans don't like it

The rest of that conference is awful.

I'd like to see it, but the question I then have is, would this be of any benefit to those schools financially speaking?
animaltested
Its good if you prefer parity. There is never a huge talent gap between tiers, making games pretty competitive. Schools really cannibalize each others preventing any one program from breaking through. To put this in perspective, since becoming the Pac-12 and adding the championship, no team has gone undefeated in conference play. Mid West and Southern bluebloods pilfering elite talent from California, leaving 12 teams fighting for scraps certainly didn't help. And maybe talent in general is drying up on the Coast (since BBALL dropped off a cliff too). I think FIRE LARRY SCOTT's overall ineptitude really hurts the conference, and so does its adherence to strict academic standards as well. Going out on a limb by saying the booster clubs in Ohio, Alabama and the South are probably … um are a lot more free wheeling than Pac-12 boosters.
