The platoon idea is kind of interesting, alternating between the old man and Taysom Hill would be a heck of a challenge for opposing defenses The senior citizen QBs look good in September - December, but then the season wears on and they lose a bit off their fastball. Drew can still sling it and it would be pretty crazy to see him and Hill trading series over the course of a season.

But honestly, I think the lack of deep ball is overrated. We didn't lose any game last year because of no deep ball. Oline getting smoked cost us the Atlanta game, and terrible defense cost us the 49ers game. A deep ball would be nice, but I'd rather see us improve our average run game and average defense. We shouldn't be expecting to win a superbowl with defense and run game that sometimes shows up and sometimes doesn't.

I'm hesitant to post this out of fear of looking like past NE/Brady fans where every thing has to be about them, but..... I wanted some plays with Alex Smith and Mahomes in shotgun together his rookie year. Is it a bomb or a check down????? Unknown until after you see who gets the snap.

I'd do it for an early/mid 2nd. Not anything after the mid/late 50's. With a skill set like that I'm surprised the Pats don't go after him. The running game and Michael Thomas are the feature players, but when the OL isn't blocking well in the run game Payton has a habit of trying to rely on Brees to get it done still. As long as Brees isn't asked to consistently be carrying the team with his arm, a few games a year is fine, the Saints will be fine. In the past 3 years the Brees has 3 of his 4 lowest attempts during his time with the Saints.

We shouldn't be expecting to win a superbowl with defense and run game that sometimes shows up and sometimes doesn't. I wouldn't say the lack of a deep ball is overrated. There are plenty of offenses that were very competent at playing dink and dunk offense and getting 24-27 points a game that way, until they ran into teams with great corners that could just play short routes and eat them for breakfast. You need that deep ball to push corners and safeties back a bit - and the lack of a deep ball will seriously hurt you if you go down by a lot of points in a game and the other team has the secondary to just play the short passing game because they just don't fear getting roasted. I was pretty critical about the Saints lack of explosiveness throughout most of this season (I personally believe more explosiveness = more wins in today's NFL), but in the last 3-4 games you guys seemed to find a 5th gear on offense. I'd just write down the playoff game as bad luck. Edited February 19, 2020 by Hukos
MrnastiesNO
Everyone understands pressure up the middle causes Brees to do crazy stuff.

Pressure up the middle makes just about every QB do crazy things. Fortunately it rarely happens because the Saints interior OL is solid and not every team has the personnel to do it. It happened three times last year... 1) Aaron Donald who is one of the great DTs ever 2) Falcons who completely changed their defense over the bye week to beat the Saints. This was more of the case of the Saints being out coached. 3) Likewise, the Vikings outcoached the Saints by putting their DEs and DT. It put Brees in a funk that he had trouble breaking out of. There were good defenses last year who weren’t successful including the 49ers front Next year, I’m pretty confident that the Saints will better gameplan for that.

Dudes arm is solid for anything under 15 Yards. Really jacks the saints future. Should have kept teddy mayne. Brees' value to the Saints is more than just his arm strength.
tom cody
Saw that. Good for him. I think this will be his final year, Super Bowl for the Saints or not. As to Bridgewater I'm hoping the Colts sign him.
SkippyX
At least they can party in New Orleans when he hits 80k passing yards.
