2020 NFL DRAFT

1.25 – Lloyd Cushenberry III – IOL – LSU (JR, 6’03, 315lbs)

WHY? We need to continue to build this OL and Cushenberry is a tremendous fit. He is well rounded, versatile, tough and heralded as both a excellent locker room guy and someone who has a very high football IQ. He was the QB of the LSU OL and has the physical traits and mental processing to start right away at any interior position.

2.46 – Bryce Hall – CB – Virginia (SR, 6’01, 200lbs)

WHY? Even with paying Jones we need to add more young talent to the CB corps as Bausby is a question mark, Callahan is a NB only and Issac has been pretty horrible. Hall fits the bill of the sure tackling, tough secondary types that we seem to be targeting. He has tremendous fell in zone but enough speed to manage in press man. His zone feel fits very well for the disguised coverages that Vic loves to run and he has the feel to start on the outside from day 1.

3.77 – Kyle Dugger – S/LB – Lenoir-Rhyne (SR, 6’01, 220lbs)

WHY? It may surprise to use two picks on secondary players this early, but I think we need to improve that unit and prepare for whenever Kareem Jackson falls off that cliff. Dugger is potentially the best athletic talent in this draft. He is rocked up and extremely twitchy, showing versatility to play LB, S, CB, returner and gunner on ST. The reports of him as a good character guy and locker room leader are numerous. He may have a learning curve, but as a rookie will be huge on ST and returning punts and kicks. This guy is explosive regardless of how you get him on the field and will be huge on ST off the bat.

3.83 – Rashard Lawrence – DL – LSU (SR, 6’02, 308lbs)

WHY? The DL needs to keep being revamped and Lawrence offers positional flexibility and potential. He is heralded for his toughness and leadership and while he may not be explosive enough to be a full time starter, he can offer 2 down potential as a 34DE and NT, with potential to be a 3 down NT as he develops IMO. The theme of this draft is versatility, leaders and toughness and Lawrence continues that trend.

4.115 – Tyler Johnson – WR – Minnesota (SR, 6’02, 205lbs)

WHY? We have two dynamic, explosive wideouts now in Cam and Diggs but need to keep adding talent. Johnson is different, more technical and chain moving than our top two guys but a hard working talent who has enough juice to not be just a ‘try hard’ in this league IMO. He doesn’t separate that well but is elite at making contested catches and high pointing which could make him a red zone maverick. I believe he is technically sound and tough enough to become our primary slot WR from day 1 or at least give DaeSean a run for his money.

4.134 – Antonio Gibson – RB – Memphis (SR, 6’01, 220lbs)

WHY? Another versatile explosive player you say? Gibson is a one year wonder with tremendous, hard to find potential. He has just 77 career touches at Memphis, but they resulted in an absurd 14 touchdowns. He may not be a true RB, or a true WR, but he can be moved all over and exploit defenses till then end of time. From day 1 he is a true impact guy as he can use his elite athleticism as a gunner, as a returner or lineup on clear passing downs in the backfield. He may need time to develop into a true RB, and may never even do so, but he can help a team in numerous ways as a swiss army knife and should be an explosive toy for Lock right away.

5.177 – Alex Taylor – OT – South Carolina (rSR, 6’09, 310lbs)

WHY? We need a true developmental OT and I love this kids potential. Former basketball player with day 1 combo of length and athleticism, he just needs to be coached up and we have just the crew for that. Like Gibson, he has a small resume (Only 17 games at SC) but huge potential with NFL bloodline and the natural tools to be a true bookend in this league. It will all come down to coaching and I like those odds.

6.180 – Myles Bryant – CB – Washington (SR, 5’09, 185lbs)

WHY? Tough, willing tackler with excellent football character and some versatility as he played safety in 2019. In the NFL he will have to make a home as a NB and his football traits (Toughness, physicality, tackling) are hopefully strong enough to make up for his size and athletic limits. At this point your not getting a perfect prospect, but I like taking my chances on this former walk on. Callahan is always injured and likely not a long term guy, ideally Bryant can develop and take over at some point. Until then he is a depth guy that may have ST value.

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/myles-bryant?id=32194252-5950-4679-6cd2-c49b21a2a5cd

7.236 – Jared Mayden – S – Alabama (SR, 6’00, 205lbs)

WHY? He waited his turn at AL and when he finally got his shot, produced quite well (4INT, 3 PBU). His skillset is a master-of-none type but we seem to prefer safeties that can do a bit of everything. While waiting his turn, he developed well on ST and will have the ability to contribute there right away while potentially being a versatile backup who can play both S positions if needed but likely maxes out as a depth guy.

https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/jared-mayden/Mo1N8dHAV3

7.250 – Ben Victor – WR – Ohio State (SR, 6’04, 200lbs)

WHY? He may only be a vertical deep threat specialist but he is good at that and regularly made big splash plays at Ohio State. More of a linear athlete than football player right now, he stood out on longer developing plays at Ohio State. I like his WR4 potential especially if we are play action heavy as he can get deep in a hurry on roll outs and take big chunks of yards.

Don’t have an issue with it.  Love the Gibson pick late, Denver wants a back that can catch the ball out of the backfield (it’s why the brought in Riddick last year) Gibson is that guy who also has the size to run between the tackles....he reminds me a bit of Jaylen Samuels.

Not a fan on the Jones free agent pickup but I could get over it. Rodgers shouldn't be re-signed IMO especially with the the Taylor draft pick. Overall I think you've done a real good job, love the draft, especially the Dugger pick (not sure he'll make it to the 3rd though, his stock is rising).

We have picks - and could bundle a couple to move up if needed.
