We did this a year ago, let's start with the starting Right Defensive End position...

2019 depth at the position:  Everson Griffen, Stephen Weatherly, Ifeadi Odenigbo

2020 Outgoing Free Agents: Everson Griffen, Stephen Weatherly

Potential Free Agents Available: Vic Beasley, Shaq Lawson, Quinton Jefferson, Leonard Williams

Potential Draftees:  Yetur Gross-Matos, Joshua Uche, Jonathan Greenard, Darrell Taylor

Now we know that there isn't a lot of money to spend in the free agent market, but what should the Vikings do to improve this position?  Sign a free agent, Draft a replacement, or Promote from Within?

Zimmer says he is expecting Everson back, after the discussions with his agent last night

We'll have to see about that, I imagine it'd have to be at a significantly reduced salary.

i always assumed they'd bring griffen back, it's hard to imagine everson playing anywhere else. it would have to be less than what he's worth though, given our cap situation.

but yeah if we let him walk and just promoted odenigbo whilst adding a draft pick or two we'd be relying too heavily on hunter and odenigbo. they'd definitely tire as the season went on, if they didn't get injured first.

so yeah, bring back griffen for $8 million or a little less, let weatherly walk, add a mid-round pick to play situationally and develop and then have odenigbo mix in more so there's closer to an even share of the snaps between hunter, griffen and odenigbo. griffen's explosiveness won't last forever so he would probably benefit from more of a rotational role and hunter is a beast but you still want him to be fresh so he can maximize his impact. odenigbo turning into a quality player is such a luxury for us, three quality edge rushers is such a big advantage over having just two.
