SkippyX
We hear a lot about Andy Reid's coaching tree for good reason. I wanted to take a look at some of the more impressive coaching trees as far as Super Bowl winners. Some branches are shared between trees such as Sean Payton who worked for Parcells but also worked for Walsh disciple Rhodes.
MikeT14
Mike Shanahan - coached under Dan Reeves and George Seifert. Coached: Gary Kubiak: Houston Texans Art Shell: Los Angeles Raiders Sean McVay: Los Angeles Rams Kyle Shanahan: San Francisco 49ers Anthony Lynn: Los Angeles Chargers Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers edit: I missed the Super Bowl WINNERS part, but at least you have McVay and his son who have been? SkippyX
Walsh is the king. Bill Walsh won 3 Super Bowls as head coach. George Seifert took over and won 2 more. Mike Shanahan (Seifert) left and won 2 in Denver Mike Holmgren (Seifert) went to Green Bay and won 1 Gary Kubiak has 2 links as both QB coach in SF(Seifert) and as Denver's OC (Shanahan). He won 1. Pete Carroll was DC in SF (Seifert) He won 1 Chucky has 2 links as both a Green Bay assistant (Holmgren) and OC in Philly (Rhodes). John Gruden won 1 Super Bowl. Rhodes did not win any but he was a long time SF assistant in the 80's and was DC on the 1994 SF team. Denny Green had a couple stints with Walsh's 49ers and although he did not win any Super Bowls (thanks Anderson!) his tree produced some winners. Brian Billick (Green) worked under Denny Green at both Staford and Minnesota (including running that 1998 offense). He won 1 Super Bowl in Baltimore. Tony Dungy (Green) was DC in Minnesota. He won 1 Super Bowl with Indy. Dungy also played a year for Walsh in 1979 Mike Tomlin (Dungy)(Coslet) coached under Dungy in Tampa for 2000 He also got his coaching start with Coslet who played in Cincy while Walsh was a heavy offensive influence. Coslet also coached for Walsh in 1980. Sean Payton (Rhodes) was heavily influenced by Parcells but he got his start in Philly under Rhodes as QB coach for 3 years. He won 1 Super Bowl. Andy Reid (Holmgren) got his start in Green Bay before moving on to Philly and KC. It feels good to finally be able to say he won 1 Super Bowl. John Harbaugh (Rhodes) (Reid) was Special Teams coach in Philly from 1998-2007. He won 1 Super Bowl in Baltimore. Doug Pederson (Holmgren)(Reid) backed up Favre at QB in Green Bay and then started for Reid early in 1999. He won 1 Super Bowl in 2017. He was also coached under Reid in Philly and KC Rhodes had 1 unremarkable 8-8 season with the Packers in 1999 but his QB coach was Mike McCarthy. McCarthy won 1 Super Bowl in Green Bay. McCarthy was also OC for SF under Mike Nolan who was in Baltimore under Billick. 19 Super Bowls so far... Did I miss any connections? SkippyX
The 2005 Steelers are the only Champion this millennium to not come from either the Parcells or Walsh coaching tree. Cowher is part of the Marty Ball (Schottenheimer) tree.
scar988
You can trace pretty much every head coach in the NFL to either Bill Parcells or Bill Walsh. I'm working on a table right now to show that. It's like playing 6 degrees of Bill Walsh here. Edited February 26, 2020 by scar988

Shanedorf
That's quite a group of future NFL HC's in that pic. Holmgren was a great teacher of teachers and he learned from Walsh Gruden, Mariucci, Reid, Ray Rhodes, **** Jauron and Marty Morninweg all became NFL HC's (6 of em !) Nolan Cromwell, Sherm Lewis, Gil Haskell were all coordinators at one point
