Make our defensive ends an absolute strength and it would give us a lot of versatility. We could play some 3-4 looks Clowney Myles Larry O Richardson Vernon That would be a lot of heat of the qb and pretty stout vs the run too. Send 5 drop 6. I think we’d only keep Vernon on a restructured contract. 15 million for a player that’s not starting is just too much of a luxury. If he’d be ok to restructure then for sure let’s do it
DizzyDean
I do not get the sticky shorts for Clowney. He has been perpetually injured. His very best years were just above average. Not spectacular. He is literally living off of pre draft hype and former draft position. Give me Griffin for half the cost. More reliable, as much upside, similar production IF Clowney is at his best all year, much more production most likely. I would view Clowney as a downgrade from Vernon.

We’d have to wait for a comp pick. now me I’d do it but Berry is going to be efficient with our money

Both have serious injury risks and are unlikely to play 16 games. Look at the production. Compare them. Clowney has never lived up to the hype. He has never lived up to the draft position. Do you want to pay a dude 17 million a year for 3 years that has averaged 5 sacks a season? it’s all hype.

DizzyDean
Clowney is arguably not even an upgrade over Clayborn. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ClayAd00.htm

DizzyDean
Given his hype and draft position he should have been what Garrett is. Garrett had more sacks last year in 10 games than Clowney has had in any year in his career.
