very good signing

Cant hurt solid depth/rotational guy.

Still wondering what the heck we are doing with Vernon. With the nerds in charge I cant imagine they look at that cap hit with 0 dead money and think that is a good investment for his production since he left MIA.

Vernon didnt have that bad of a year last year. Everyone wants to judge him on his boxscore but his play helped Garrett. His play, allowed the team to switch them back and forth between both DE positions. Garrett produced a lot playing against RTs. Heck his '15 season (last one with Mia) he was a 82.5pff. in '18 he was an 86.3 and last year he was 80.4.

Why cut him when you dont have anyone truly better to replace him with. Browns arent hurting for cap space right now either

Not saying he wasnt solid, just for 17 million per season you expect near elite level of production and more game changing plays--not just solid production. Vernon is getting paid more than JJ Watt, Melvin Ingram and Chris Jones but IMO doesnt offer the weekly impact plays that those other guys in his tax bracket make.

Like the Clayborn signing:

-Can we can have a professional player who can be productive whole on the field

-Can help keep these guys (Garrett, Vernon) on a pitch count to keep them fresh, especially moving forward to a 17 game schedule + playoffs

- Anything north of 5.5 sacks out of him will be a win IMO

Let's put something to bed after being told over & over again how Olivier Vernon wasn't productive last season. Pass-rush productivity (percentage of snaps, 200 or more, with pressure generated):

  • 1. Garrett - 15.1%
  • 2. Vernon - 13.2%

For comparison, following edge-rushers fit into same range as Vernon in pass-rush productivity:

  • Khalil Mack: 13.2%
  • Dante Fowler: 13.2%
  • Brandon Graham: 13.1%
  • Arik Armstead: 12.5%
  • Chandler Jones: 12.2%
  • Everson Griffen: 12.1%

Top FAs Ngakoue & Clowney fell below those numbers.

You mention Ingram, PFF graded Vernon higher than him.
