We don’t have the money to sign those guys IMO. we will have to agree to disagree, we have Appx.60 Million to spend not counting money saved by cutting people such as vernon and hubbard and I am confident that Berry and Depo could work the contracts to where it is beneficial to the the players signed and not be as harmful when it comes time to sign the young guys, not to mention I have no doubt that the salary cap should continue to increase, also have Rudolph signing for the vet minimum and Keenum will not command a big contract Edited March 2, 2020 by Dawgpoun8017

MWil23
Can you explain your rationale for keeping and restructuring Kirksey, who hasn't been able to stay healthy, is clearly past his prime, and likely won't ever be good again, and letting a Pro Bowl caliber LB walk on our atrocious defense? One because Kirksey restructuring his deal and staying is far more likely to happen than schobert getting the type of money he is asking for. And when healthy Kirksey is a pretty good linebacker. And two it’s already been said that schobert is going to be allowed to walk. And as I said in the 53 man roster thread Letting Schobert walk is an unpopular move but it is probably the right move, now none of what I am about to say means that Joe is a bad LB by any means because he is not he is a good smart player, but not for nothing we as fans tend to prop some of our players up a little more than the reality is, I cant remember who it was but somebody was comparing Joe being right up there with Luke Kuechly which for as good as Joe is he cannot hold LK's jock. When we hired Berry as the GM he said that he would be aggressive to add talent to this team but we all knew that he was not going overpay what he feels the proper value for someone is. What does Joe do yes he makes a lot of tackles, he was 6th overall in the NFL with 133 this year... a good year no doubt very respectable, but of that 133 only 7 (which is his career best) were tackles for losses ranking him 82nd in the NFL, We saw this a lot with D'Qwell Jackson and I remember people killing him for it, he racked up a ton of tackles but they were always mostly 5-10 yards down the field, he also had 16 missed tackles which ranked him 9th most in the NFL. What else is Joe known for, he is known for being a very good coverage LB and he is a good Coverage LB and this year he made a bunch of splash plays intercepting the ball 4 times putting him only behind Darius Leonard, but after a strong 2018 in the passing game when he only allowed a 59.6% completion percentage, this past year he saw that increase to a 69.1% completion percentage. Also this past season according to PFF Joe saw a massive dip in his effectiveness rate from 77..2 in 2018 to 59..1 in 2019. Now everyone had a down year this past season (well except for Chubb and Jarvis) and this is not to say Joe is a bad player because he is not he is a good smart Linebacker and he will get a hefty pay raise but it is obvious that the value our front office put on him did not equal the amount that Joe was asking for to stay. I mean, philosophically I get all that, but what I'm saying is this: Kirksey has been able to stay healthy in 8 out of our last 32 games, is a shell of his former self, and approaching 28. Depending on him is a huge mistake, even if he does restructure his deal IMO. Philosophically, we just don't agree about Joe Schobert, and that's totally fine! Our defense is HORRENDOUS as a whole, and Schobert is about the only lone bright spot, aside from Ward and Myles, with Ogunjobi looking solid. He's been productive, he's in his prime, and he's already over-produced his paycheck. 2. The reality is, in Cleveland, we will need to slightly overpay guys to keep them here. 3. Our defense WILL BE WORSE without him, which is saying something 4. Keeping Kirksey is a mistake, even if he's healthy, which I seriously doubt at this point. I'd rather sign a guy or two to a mid-level or prove-it and wait until next year to look hard.
