In fact, whenever he left a team they magically reach the playoffs shortly afterwards. I was thinking about that neck the other day, and how he was the good luck Chuck of the NFL. Randy moss also comes to mind in a similar light, given that he has no rings

ET80
Eric Swann. DT, 6th overall pick in 1991, 2x All Pro for the Arizona Cardinals. The interesting part - he did not play college football at all. He was highly recruited out of HS and had a full offer from North Carolina State, but didn't have the grades to enroll. He enrolled at a Community College, but then dropped out and played Semi Pro football in Massachusetts. Someone in the Cardinals organization kept tabs on him, saw that he still dominated at 6' 5" 317lbs and drafted him ...in the top 10 of the 1991 NFL draft. It worked out, as he was a dominant presence on the Cardinals DL, getting Pro Bowl/All Pro honors in 1995/1996 and scoring a 5/$25mm contract in 1998. He proceeded to regress and was cut in 2000; Carolina signed him to a vet minimum deal, but he was out of pro football in 2001. He went back to the semi pro circuit, playing a season in 2007. Does anyone here think we'll ever see a top 10 selection who didn't play college football?

Let's be real here - he had arguably one of the best playoff runs in history. If he played half of his career like that run, he'd probably have a few rings, maybe even an MVP or two. That run was so odd, given who he is.

This weak-sauce Hot Take is rated : MOSTLY FALSE So, Flacco had a 117 QB rating over 4 playoff games with 11 TDs to no picks in games where his D gave up 88 points and this means Ray Lewis carried him to you? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_single_season_playoffs.htm That playoff run was the 5th highest of a Super Bowl winning QB. The 3 just behind him are Brees '09, Young '94, and Montana '88. Flacco's last 10 playoff games stand with just about anyone to ever play QB in the playoffs. 24 TDs to 4 picks for a 106.1 rating He missed back to back SBs because his WR dropped a TD he already caught, and then his kicker blew a 39 yarder. Flacco was carried in his first 5 playoff games as a 1st and 2nd year starter. How did Lamar do in the playoffs as a 1st and 2nd year starter? Lewis was an incredible player and a force of nature in the 2000 playoffs. When healthy, he was even dominant through 2010 at age 35. At 37, he was just a guy on that 2012 team. Reed and Flacco were the stars of that Super Bowl run. Flacco haters, like Alex Smith haters, are only really wallowing in their own ignorance. SkippyX
Judging Flacco harshly for the 2008 and 2009 playoffs is like judging Steve Young based solely on Tampa Bay.

I'll be there first to admit I'm not a Flacco follower. From an outsider looking in, he seems to have had a lackluster career outside of a two year (ish) stretch. Baltimore sent him packing for Jackson. Rightfully so. Denver sat him for Lock. Honestly can't remember if it started out due to injury or not. But Lock is the odds on winner in the QB competition. I digress. I'm just saying minus the here or there hot play he's been well... An average Joe.
SkippyX
106.1 in 10 playoff games is HoF level, not average. (32.7 passes per game in those, so it was not handoffs and efficient play, it was throwing the ball often) Years 1-7 he was on Hall of Very Good if maybe not quite HoF trajectory. In his 4 playoff matchups vs Brady he was the better QB overall. 8 TDs to 8 picks for Brady 9 TDs to 4 picks for Flacco (9 to 3 in his last 3) All 4 games were in Foxborough. No one else has played like Flacco against the Patriots in that stadium. (not counting 2009, when he was carried) Rivers had 3 TDs to 6 picks vs New England and only 2 of those games were road games. (and 2 of the TDs were garbage time when down by 20+) Flacco fell off a cliff in health and production since that last matchup in the 2014 playoffs though, so that could qualify him for this list. Pretending he was a bad QB or that he did not earn what he accomplished is just a lie. Edited March 9, 2020 by SkippyX
