So far I am seeing it as merely speculation to what Bears will do. I cannot trust anything I read at this time of the offseason. This is all I have for you on that. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/bears-are-reportedly-planning-prioritize-nick-kwiatkoski-free-agent-target The quote comes from Chris Emma who typically has some knowledge of what the Bears plans are but I'm mistaken to have said Pace himself was quoted as saying this in public rather than having given indications of it in media sessions. https://t.co/5xayCwlo0h Here's a Trib piece on it. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bears/ct-cb-chicago-bears-nick-kwiatkoski-20200301-vumop6glcvhg3k22kqqd6grdvq-story.html And finally an analysis of where Kwit may fall among other 2020 UFA ILBs. Note his coverage ranking in comparison to others. https://beargoggleson.com/2020/03/05/chicago-bears-free-agency-kwiatkoski/ Coverage In coverage, we looked at the last two seasons for Nick Kwiatkoski, because his sample size is still small, and he had his worst football in 2018. Still, comparing his metics to these peers, Kwiatkoski still looked fine in coverage. Hicks allowed 11.4 yards per reception, Schubert, 10.6 Littleton 9.9, Martinez, 9.2, Smith 8.7, and Kwiatkoski bringing up the end with 7.7 yards per reception. His yards per target at 4.7 is the lowest of the group as well with them ranging from 6.8 to 8.6 yards per target allowed. He also allowed a 69 passer rating which bests Schobert, who allowed an 81, which led the rest of the group. But if this part is true and another team will go this high for him then I would say we've seen him play his last as a Bear. For us that would definitely be above where we should be prepared to go and I would instead bring back DT on a two year deal and make certain we have good backup. The word from the Combine is a number of LBs have shown good speed and while that doesn't necessarily make them a good football players I have no problem with re-drafting ILB vs paying $20 gtd to Kwit if that is what his FMV is now. "Expect a 4-year, $40 million with $20 million guaranteed to be on the table for Kwiatkoski. Do not expect the Bears to be the team offering that." Why can't some people think this way when it comes to Mitch though instead of writing him off completely? Because he regressed. Nick also had limited opportunities. Would we have seen this improvement if he had gotten 10 consecutive starts in an early year? Mitch has had a ton of times and reps. Mitch also doesn’t seem to have a coach who wants to accent his strengths. Not his fault, but that is his situation.

So Nagy brought in Lazor and Defillipo with some hope they can find ways to unlock Mitch's potential and help redesign the offensive schemes around his strengths. Will it work? Maybe yes or maybe no but we seem destined for find out one way or another.

It’s just getting to see it more.
