New game by Riot (makers of League of Legends).  Looks like it has the game play of CS:GO, but has abilities like Overwatch.  I'm not sure how I feel about this game at the moment, but I'm excited for it.  Apparently, it is coming out this summer, so not that long of a wait.  It will be free to play.

A Riot games free to play game, who are owned by tencent.

Nope.

You'll need to buy a level up allowance for .99cents per level up or some nonsense. Not touching this one.

Isn't League of Legends free to play completely other than skins and other cosmetics that don't impact game play?

I haven't played league in like 4 years so I can't say what they've recently done.

But generally the game is so focused on you spending money you pretty much have to to keep up.

Champions, skins, RP boosts etc. are locked behind a paywall and champions are how you progress/play the game so.

It's like that in every moba, except for Dota 2.  Apex Legends is also that way - you can save in-game currency, but you still have to buy characters in order to play with them.

We'll see how Valorant is, but for the most part League and Apex can be played without spending any money.  You can use in-game currency to buy characters for both games.  The thing that cost tons of money are cosmetics, skins, etc but those things don't impact game play, so they're not needed.

I see what you're saying, though.

This model has worked.  EA was working to it hardcore until people had enough with Battlefront II, though for games that are marketed as "free to play" they can get away with micro transactions like these.

Sure, there are some people who play these games enough where they make enough in-game currency to stay ahead of the curve, but they are banking off the average gamer wanting to keep up and spending a ton of money just to gear up.  The average gamer usually has a couple hours to play a week and wants to at least be decent in the game.  It started to work in the phone gaming industry and then carried over to console/PC games

Personally, I've never bought any of that stuff except on The Old Republic, where I subscribed and used my cartel coins to buy the experience upgrades and a few pieces of gear here and there.  I never thought that we should pay beyond the original amount for a game, but there's a huge market for it.

I didn't play much CSGO because I disliked it.  However, I've been playing this and I love it.  I really prefer this art style (Overwatch-ish) and it feels like the game runs much smoother for me.  With all that said, I'm really really bad.  I go negative almost every game I play lol

Same. I could never get into CS, but I've been having a blast with this game. I found CS to be a little too tactical and vanilla for my tastes; it quickly got boring after a game or two. The abilities in Valorant, however, really make it feel fresh each game.
