ANATOMY OF A CHAMPION

Ashawn was ok. Hes gone. Kerryon has been ok. He wont be here much longer if he continues to get hurt.

Tavai was good I thought for a rookie.

Tabor bust. Abdullah bust. Broyles bust. Leshoure bust. Young bust. I suppose Quinn has been better than Mayhew, but it's not saying much.

2016 - A'Shawn Robinson

2018 - Kerryon Johnson

2019 - Jahlani Tavai

I don't think those three players have been 'awful' by any means.

2013 - Slay (Good)

2014 - Van Noy (Not good with Det)

2015 - Abdullah (Not good)

2016 - A'Shawn (Moderate)

2017 - Tabor (Terrible)

2018 - Kerryon (Good when healthy)

2019 - Tavai (TBD)

We've had one good 2nd rounder since 2013 and he has been dealing with injury issues for most of his career. Tavai is far too early to tell.

I agree. Two out of six being 'awful' certainly doesn't follow the "our 2nd rounders have been awful for quite some time now".

2009 - Lous Delmas (Good)

2010 - No second rounder

2011 - Titus Young (Bad)

2012 - Ryan Broyles (Bad)

2013 - Slay (Good)

2014 - Van Noy (Bad with/ Detroit)

2015 - Abdullah (Not good)

2016 - A'Shawn (Moderate)

2017 - Tabor (Terrible)

2018 - Kerryon (Good when healthy)

2019 - Tavai (TBD)

Call it 3.5 out of 10 or a 35% hit rate. Sorry TL, but that's not good.

My bad, didn't know you were going that far back. Wasn't trying to be critical or anything... just seemed like we've had a few good second round picks in the recent past.

Yeah, we've had some terrible second round picks. There's no debate there.

I was specifically responding to "Our 2nd rounders have been awful for quite some time now". I felt that we'd had a few non-awful 2nd round picks recently, A'Shawn and Kerryon being two.

A'Shawn is my .5, which means that KJ could wind up being a "Bad" pick if he can't contribute much this year. He had his best year in 2018 next to Snacks. Otherwise he has been an underperforming player.

For whatever the reason, the Lions have just not been very good at hitting on their 2nd rounders regardless of who is the GM.

Mayhew - 3/6 = 50%

2009 - Levy (Good)

2010 - Spievey (Bad)

2011 - No 3rd

2012 - Bill Bentley (Bad)

2013 - Warford (Good)

2014 - Swanson (Good)

2015 - Carter (Bad)

Quinn = 3/3 = 100%

2016 - Glasgow (Good)

2017 - Golladay (Good)

2018 - Walker (Good)

2019 - Harris (TBD)

We're 6/9 collectively or 66%.

If memory serves me correctly, Quinn's 3rd rounders have been pretty good though. His second rounders have been above average.  His first rounders aren't sexy, but get the job done.

I feel like part of the "unsexy" 1st rounders is partially due to draft position. When you're just good enough to not be awful, you end up drafting 16th, 21st and 20th, difficult draft positions to land a truly elite player. That's why I was glad when we didn't attempt to salvage last year and instead fielded the players that we did: the value we have this year is such that can turn around a franchise. If Quinn misses here, there's no excuse.
