Are we going to see the return of run-centric offenses soon

Cheaper to build a team around the runm

Seahawks early on  were strong run and strong defense. RW didnt make mistakes and won alot of games.

What you're saying is that you win by having a good to great QB on a rookie contract, and using the extra 29 million to stock your roster with additional talent.

I would think it might swing that way eventually right?

Quarterbacks are getting ridiculously expensive for ones that aren't even Top-15, eventually the market has to crash right? The cap just isn't increasing enough to counteract the cost of QBs.

Defenses are spending more on speed and less on power. In theory these defenses should be easier to run against

Its easier for most OL to run block than pass block

I don't know about crash, but sooner or later GMs are going to have to understand that there's no good reason to pay a QB 2million a year to not lose games.

QBs are getting too expensive, which is why you're seeing the ones on rookie contract winning super bowls.

Good qb on rookie contract and good rb on rookie contract like Dallas when it had zeek....and dak on rookie deals could have gotten far if they had a good coach

plenty of money to spend on other players

In 2019 the average team passed 558 times for 3759 yards and ran 418 times for 1806 yards.

In 2010 the average team passed 540 times for 3545 yards and ran 435 times for 1832 yards.

In 2000 the average team passed 527 times for 3310 yards and ran 441 times for 1801 yards.

In 1990 the average team passed 483 times for 3116 yards and ran 444 times for 1822 yards.

In 1980 the average team passed 490 times for 3135 yards and ran 514 times for 2041 yards.

In 1970 the average team passed 377 times for 2259 yards and ran 440 times for 1685 yards.

In 1966 (the first year a Super Bowl was played) the average team passed 407 times for 2496 yards and ran 434 times for 1693 yards.

You pretty much have to go back 25+ years to find a time where the NFL as a league wasn't passing more than it was running, and even in the late 60s, the passing yardage was still roughly 50% higher than the rushing yardage.

There's never really been a time in league history where the run game mattered more than the passing game, despite how people might wish to portray it.

John DeFillipo is the reason for the recent surge

Or those not taking market value like Brady. Jimmy-G was making good money last year at least. Didnt win but close enough to where they can make it happen

Either the QB has to be on a rookie deal or like the 49ers they need a ton of rookie deal starters elsewhere

Never said they didn't. But teams try to copy what's at the top, and after a lot of chatter going into the postseason of how the run was starting to take over, that's not what won in the end, and that's going to dictate a lot of roster building decisions, because the NFL is dumb about that kind of thing.

Totally get what you're saying here but Mahomes did not win the Super Bowl for the Chiefs. If you had to single out two KC players who did that it would be the RB Williams and the D lineman Jones.

What 'won in the end' was a couple of plays made and a couple not made.

For me the 9ers defense stifled a great QB for the vast majority of the game.

Defense still wins championships. Jones was the MVP.

As for copying what's at the top, that would surely on offense be what Shanahan is doing with the deceptions with the running game.

And you can't copy Mahomes cos he's a real one off from what we've seen so far so he's too hard to replicate.

But yes the passing game has all the advantages the NFL can give it and hence some teams will follow like sheep in the belief that you just need a great QB and good receivers.

The Titans, 49ers, Saints, Vikings, Texans, Ravens, and Seahawks all had very productive or dominant running games even when removing some of their mobile QBs.

Running the ball is underrated.

This.

Titans and 49ers especially got where they were due to dominant running attacks. It's definitely coming back.

Just because they lost to Mahomes who is on another level then the rest of the field doesn't mean most teams can get away not having a good running attack.

Just based on what I’ve read about Stefanski, Cleveland will run the ball like crazy. We just traded for a fullback and will have a chance to draft a guy like Becton or Wirfs.

I feel like we might see more fullbacks being used again, but they have to be athletes who can catch.

I don't believe that. Most teams are not that dumb. You are telling me that because the Chiefs lost to the Pats in the previous playoff that teams weren't taking a close look at what Mahommes and co were doing going into last year? Teams were just planning for how to put up 20 points on the Pats defense? Some teams may be that dumb, but most aren't.

After this year, every NFC team is going to need a plan for facing the 49ers offense in a playoff game and same for the Ravens and Titans on the AFC side.
