Lions sign LB Jamie Collins

Recommended Posts

What I don’t like about this is he was a available last year on the cheap and the Lions weren’t interested. Now we suddenly and we overpay.

Yup, and another Patriots player is added to the roster.

This makes sense, I guess. He's a scheme fit and will improve our weak LB group.

You mean a veteran player who has excelled in our scheme and can teach the younger guys while also being better at the one thing they're not (coverage)?

Patriots are out to get the rest of the league.  Here is their model:

Draft/sign player who has tools.

Use good coaching to help player improve and more importantly, get really good at 2 things that make your system work.

Player performs well

Contract is up and NE does not resign because they want big money, they find another 5th round pick who can do those 1 or 2 things

Other team gives them big money

They struggle elsewhere because they are system guys that are good at 1 or 2 things that the best coach in NFL history found ways to exploit

They get cut and return to NE for cheap

Repeat

He excelled on the Patriots. He has not played a single snap for the Lions.

This assumption that players can just switch teams and mirror previous success doesn’t hold true.

it might work, it might not. I’m of the opinion it won’t so time will tell.
