49ers should have given Tarvarius Moore a shot and saved the money.

It's tough. There were people who were okay with that if need be, but if we could get Ward back reasonably, that was preferred.

This is more than I wanted to spend personally, but this is also just the surface. I was good with two for 16. This deal is probably along those lines, truth be told.

Moore is a real problem in the tackling department, and Ward is one of the best in the business. That would have been a big drop off.

Moore is going into his third year, got forced into CB his first year, and moved all over this year.  Plus he is an elite athlete.  I think you give him a set role and he would be fine.

It wasn't that Moore was a bad tackler, but rather that he can take bad angles.  Which is fixable.

Oh no, trust me, it's both lol. We actually just discussed this very thing for the pod. Wars is about as reliable as it gets in that regard.

But its trade off. Moore has more coverage range and will likely develop better ball skills (they are a work in progress).

I would have been willing to save the money for the trade off, but it was a risk. I also just don't trust Ward to stay healthy

Moore is on his BDL team. It’s best just to ignore it.

I thought it was more the angles.  I know Ward is safe and reliable.  But you have to give Moore a legit shot.

We will see.

I'm not wrong though.

I really like Moore. A lot of people out there were very comfortable with him stepping into that role if we couldnt re-sign ward. You are absolutely correct, moore's issues are fixable.

Here is the thing though, we absolutely need to have 3 starting caliber safeties on our roster. Ward and Tartt both are injury prone, particularly when it comes to broken bones. Moore is a young player with upside. I absolutely want him to see significant snaps this year, because he was a super high third round pick and I felt he played himself into a larger role moving forward.

Tartt is a FA after this upcoming season. Its very possible they view moore and ward as a starting S combination after that point.

We couldnt go into the season with just tartt and moore at S. We would have been too thin. It would have meant drafting a S and we dont have that many picks. This was a good deal for the 49ers from that standpoint. Moore is a good third S/ST/development player who can grow into a long term starter.

Jimmie is a good football player. Happy to have him on the team
