The entire point of us staying inside is that Darwinism doesn't come into play dude. "Let's just let Darwin take care of it" is the fun, positive spin on American indifference as people needlessly suffer and die.

Yeah, the problem with a pandemic is that it isn't the dummies that die, at least not proportionally.  Dumb non-mask wearing people spread their germs to people trying to do everything right.  And the virus hits harder in urban areas because people are in close proximity, even though anti-maskers are more likely to live in rural areas.  So yeah, the comparison doesn't work at all.

I live in the county in Tennessee with the third most cases (3,040), and I was exposed in the county where I'm from and where my office is because guess what?  It's rural, and everyone there is anti-mask.  For comparison, they have 78 cases.

If people running around not wearing masks were only putting themselves at risk, I would be their biggest cheerleader.  Two birds with one stone, ya know.

Yup, my wife's sister down in Florida has done everything right. Then one night, her roommate goes out to a bar and gets the virus. I think she managed to somehow not get infected, but that's just one of many examples where the idiots that refuse to wear a mask can ruin it for the entire country.

Natural selection doesn't come into play with this, unfortunately.

People still bashing the CDC/WHO for the no mask thing are being purposefully obtuse. It's a new virus, they are still learning new things about COVID-19. They gave out advice based on what they knew at the time, and I also think we didn't have the amount of PPE necessary for the entire public based on decisions made by someone and the CDC gave out the best advice they could at the time.

Now shut the hell up and put a mask on.

Social media blurbs......

1. Some woman caught on video in a grocery store somewhere declaring she has some respiratory illness and cant/wont wear a mask. What stood out was the "indignation" with which she declared herself.

My thought: If the claim of a respiratory illness is accurate, the LAST place this woman wants to be is out in public (A) and certainly w/o a mask (B) - but that logic is apparently lost on her.

2. Some woman was refused entry into a hospital w/o putting on a mask. She said she was there to have her (potentially) broken finger looked at and posted a video on Twitter and expressed "I cant believe this is happening...." outrage they wouldnt look at her unless she put a mask on.  She refused to put on a mask so security escorted her out. Her profile amongst other things indicated she was a "truther and freedom lover"

My thought: Her profile left off "self-centered dumb ***" The mask is intended to protect her as much as those around her.

It must be really hard being you and knowing everything to be absolute fact.

I mean it's political. It shouldn't be, but it is. 99.99% of people screaming they refuse to wear a mask happen to fall on one side. Thats not a coincidence.

Both facts, people are absolute morons.  If you have an underlying illness and can't wear a mask for some reason, you get delivery. If you can't get delivery, you go to the store early.  That lady is the worst of the worst because of how stupid.  I didn't see the second one, but that is almost as dumb, glad they had her leave, that is how it should be.

Things will never be 100% but Darwinism will hopefully come into play here.

I mean, we're already seeing this play out in social Darwinism sense. Countries that took this seriously are seeing things slowly return to normal while countries like ours with leaders who cried about hoaxes and turned mask-wearing into a culture war are bogged down in a complete mess. People have caught on to how dumb we are to such an extent that we're literally not allowed to travel anymore. As a country, we're the weak morons  who played the denial game at every opportunity here and we're being punished accordingly.

I agree it shouldn't be, but I also don't think it is 99.99%...I personally know 2 people who do not fall to that side and are anti mask (one happens to also be anti vax...the worst of the worst).

And we all know it. It's obvious.

The "but maybe the scientific community should have been nicer about it" is all a distraction from the problem. It's a marginal step up from yelling "oh my god the fire alarm". Anyone who looks at this at even a cursory level will see that the US has the same media, the same information, etc. as every other developed nation. The only difference is the political strategy being used - pretend the pandemic doesn't exist - and the 30% of the country that has accepted that and goes into standard deflect/mudflinging nonsense.

Yea, that is not darwinism, and my comment was soley about the story of the idiots playing some stupid game. I guess I need more disclaimers.

I will ask a second time, where did I say nicer? So you without any doubt feel the media is not playing into this political strategy either?  They are just reporting the science and the facts?

Yes. There is no political strategy behind "Wear a mask, it helps stop the spread of COVID-19". There IS political strategy in "IT INFRINGES ON OUR BASIC RIGHTS!" because thats a load of BS.

Right here:

Maybe if the message was "everyone wear a mask and we can reopen" it would be received differently

Did you exactly use the word "nicer"? No. But that's the clear intent of your post.

This is more nonsensical mudflinging. Europe has the same issues with media that we have in the US. It's not different, but they all got on board. Until you decide to admit to yourself why that happened, you'll never make any headway.

My Dad had an unexpected trip to the emergency room about.....1.5 months ago? The whole "wear a mask" thing was just getting started (and I didnt have one) - regardless, the last place that I wanted either of us to be was an emergency room. The folks at the front door took care of me and wouldnt allow me access - which made sense and I appreciated that. My Dad wasnt in dire straights and my presence wasnt necessary (or beneficial) in any way.

This is in Florida. I asked one of the admitting folks how there were doing on COVID19 patients and was told too date they'd had one patient. Now, that hospital's ICU beds are all "No room at the Inn" filled up.
