Ok, this is somewhat crazy, but fun.  Here we go!

Cap space as of this mock:  $12.7m

Key FA's in 2021:  Aaron Jones, David Bakhtiari, Corey Linsley, Kenny Clark, Jamaal Williams and Kevin King.  2021 Cap space:  $52.3m.

Lesser FA's in 2021:  Montravius Adams and Tim Williams.

Key FA in 2022:  DaVante Adams.

Knowing they can't resign all those key FA's in 2021, they focus on just a few.  Packers restructure David Bakhtiari  4yrs/$16m/60%/ 2020 cap hit $11.2.  (+$3.2m).  They then lock up a key 2022 FA, restructure DaVante Adams 4yrs/$18m/60%/2020 cap hit $12.6m.  (+$4m)

Cap Space now:  $19.9m

Packers release Corey Linsley to save $8.5m.  Patrick is going into training camp as the starting C.  They also release Montravius Adams to save $840,000.

Cap Space now:  $29.24m

Outside FA's:

Ryan_LoganLogan Ryan CB  Titans  3yrs/$11m/60%/Cap hit $8.25m

wolfe_headshotDerek Wolfe DE  Broncos  3yrs/$10m/60%/Cap hit $7.5m

DeVonta Freeman RB  Falcons 2yrs/$6m/40%/Cap hit $4.8m

Cap space now: $8.69m

Pre Draft trades:  Kevin King CB sent to Texans for 4th rd pick #111.  (+$1.5m cap)  (This now leave Packers with only 3 key FA's to focus on next season.)

2020 Cap Space:  $10.19

2020 NFL Draft:  Used Matt Miller's Big Board on fanspeak.com for this draft.

#30.

A.J. Epenesa 2020 NFL Mock Draft

Scouting Report: A.J. Epenesa

School: Iowa Position: Defensive End Class: Junior Height: 6’5 Weight: 277

Scouting Report:

A pass rushing specialist in his limited playing time, Epenesa is a furious force off of the edge, destroying offensive tackles on passing downs. With increased playing time, he will have an opportunity to display more pass rush moves and how he can stand up against the run. Racked up 10.5 sacks in 2018 as a second string player. Has all the right tools but needs to develop more tape in 2019.  (Rotates with Lowry on passing downs.  Possible 2021 starter at DE.)

#62.

Laviska Shenault Jr NFL

Scouting Report: Laviska Shenault Jr.

School: Colorado Position: Wide Receiver Class: Junior Height: 6’2″ Weight: 220

Scouting Report:

Powerfully built receiver that has a rare combination of height, strength, speed, and agility. Has superb speed in the open field and acceleration after getting out of cuts. Able to fight for balls and generally will win against smaller, weaker defensive backs. Has had some injury concerns, some of which due to his physical style of play. Catches everything thrown his way and is able to get separation at the point of the catch and by getting away from defenders.  (#2 WR that give Adams some help.)

#94.

Zack Moss NFL

Scouting Report: Zack Moss

School: Utah Position: Running Back Class: Senior Height: 5’10” Weight: 222

Scouting Report:

Powerful runner between the tackles. Seems to prefer to work in close quarters and enjoys contact. Not a back that is always looking for daylight, is one that yearns for and works for the hard, short yards. Extremely difficult to bring down by the first tackler. Excellent footwork in a phone booth, and is more comfortable in crowds than in spaces. Good catcher of the football with natural hands. Willing and able to pass pro. Not a big play threat with a 5th gear, but is reliable to get valuable short yards.  (Insurance with Jones and Williams both being FA's next year.  Packers know they have Moss and Freeman for sure plus one of the two FA's for 2021.)

#111. (Trade Texans)

Brycen Hopkins NFL

Scouting Report: Brycen Hopkins

School: Purdue Position: Tight End Class: Senior Height: 6’5″ Weight: 245

Scouting Report:

Primarily a receiver as a tight end, but has more power and blocking abilities than most “move” tight ends coming out of college. In the passing game, has very quick feet and runs crisp and disciplined routes. Very soft hands and catches the ball away from his body, tucks it into his body quickly and is able to get up field and get YAC. Able to work in the slot and on the outside equally. Effective as a pass blocker, but would not be a big asset with run blocking at this time.  (Perfect #2 TE with Sternberger at #1, Lewis and Tonyan.)

#136.

Tyler Biadasz NFL

Scouting Report: Tyler Biadasz

School: Wisconsin Position: Center Class: Junior Height: 6-3 Weight: 325

Scouting Report:

Extremely powerful, smash-mouth type center that doesn’t need the extra help from other offensive linemen to block top tier defensive linemen. Excels with a combination of power and balance. Works best in close quarters where his lack of arm length could get him into problems, but shouldn’t hinder him at center in most blocking schemes. Able to road grade in the run game, and has the footwork to hold up to recover, even when caught off balance in pass protection.  (Really like him and Darryl Williams as Centers in this draft.  Pushes Patrick for starting job right off the bat.)

#175.

Logan Stenberg NFL

Scouting Report: Logan Stenberg

School: Kentucky Position: Offensive Guard Class: Senior Height: 6’5″ Weight: 310

Scouting Report:

Powerfully built interior lineman that bulldozes defenders when plowing forward. Towards the top end of offensive guards in terms of overall strength, and it shows on tape. Erupts off of the snap and pounds defenders, often to the ground. Works best in small areas, and will need to work on agility. Pulling and getting to the next level and finding people to block further down the field in the run game are not his strengths, and will need to focus on both awareness and footwork. Devastating in the run game, and will be prized by teams looking to add to a power run attack.  (Depth guy that could be starter in 2021, or at least insurance if Turner goes down or moves to RT and offers more to the running game.)

#192.

Nick Coe NFL

Scouting Report: Nick Coe

School: Auburn Position: Defensive End Class: Junior Height: 6-4 Weight: 282

Scouting Report:

A prototypical 4-3, edge, get after the QB pass rusher. Powerful and fast with good height, build, and athleticism that wreaks havoc in the back field. Uses a combination of hand and arm technique and leverage to alternatively use speed and power to get around and through offensive linemen.  (Boom or bust guy, with Epenesa and Coe in the draft, Lancaster in pushed to back up NT for Clark.)

#208.

Trey Adams - 2019 NFL Draft

Scouting Report: Trey Adams

2019 NFL Mock Draft

DraftGeek’s Mock Draft

School: Washington Position: Offensive Tackle Class: Senior Height: 6-7 Weight: 302 lbs

Scouting Report:

Long offensive tackle prospect that has had two very good years at left tackle for Washington. Has been able to adjust to both speed and power rushes, and has shown strong development with footwork and hand placement. After a year without many elite left tackle prospects, he projects as a true left tackle that should find his way into the first round.  (Like before, another guy that seems to be dropping in big boards due to back history.  Could be a steal in all checks out at R or LT.)

#209.

Shaquille-quarterman-ilb-miami-678x381.j

Scouting Report: Shaquille Quarterman

School: Miami Position: Inside Linebacker Class: Senior Height: 6-1 Weight: 240

Scouting Report:

Durable leader who plays with aggression. Has been effective in zone coverage but can struggle dropping into coverage. Lacks sideline to sideline speed. Needs work keeping his eyes up to make a play and using his hands and arms.  (New thumper in the middle.)

#236.

Shyheim Carter NFL

Scouting Report: Shyheim Carter

School: Alabama Position: Safety Class: Senior Height: 6’1″ Weight: 200

Scouting Report:

Excelled in coverage against opposing offenses’ quickest players in the slot, and rarely gives up any room in coverage to these receivers. So far has shown excellent coverage skills in the slot, and hasn’t been required to move around the secondary. However, that will change as he will probably see more work deeper in the secondary. Can be moved around all over the defense, and is particularly efficient with blitzes and defending the run. A willing and able tackler that doesn’t take many bad angles. Has some injury concerns, in that the injury he sustained has a history of coming back. Extremely well coached and will be an out of the box, ready to play prospect after being drafted.  (He keeps sliding down boards as well, offers flexibility to the DB group.)

#242.

Tyler Higby NFL

Scouting Report: Tyler Higby

School: Michigan State Position: Offensive Guard Class: Junior Height: 6’5″ Weight: 300

Scouting Report:

Extremely experienced and versatile offensive line prospect that probably is best suited at left guard at the next level. Has been bounced around the offensive line due to injuries and performance issues of other players, but has been able to grasp and adapt to each position on the offensive line. Excels at pass pro on the inside, and is a perfect complement player to a top tier left tackle prospect. Is well coached in the NFL game, and will be able to step in immediately to an NFL offensive line.  (Can play all along the OL, couldn't believe he was down this low on the board.  Lucky us.  OL depth.)

Much of this is a no from me. I really like the FA signings, but this draft is riddled with error and unlikelihood. I can buy Epenesa at 30 as a 3-tech believe it or not because he could add some weight to his frame and not have it be an issue, but that's not very likely. Shenault isn't falling to 62 and we're not drafting a RB at 94 unless Dobbins were to fall. You could flip flop Hopkins and Biadsz around and I could go for the Carter, Quarterman, and Adams picks; but there's no way we draft 3 OL, especially 2 IOL, in this draft - not with Taylor, Lucas, and Turner on this roster.

Just to add to this. I would be insanely pissed off if we signed Freeman (Wasted cap) and then followed up with that by spending a day 2 pick on another RB all while having Aaron Jones and JWill still on the roster ... thats just horrible management of finances and draft capital.

Plus, we're only getting a 4th for Kevin King? I'd buy that if you traded with any team that wasn't the Texans. It's BOB could probably get Watson as our QBOTF for King.

  1. Not a fan. Don't see the need to spend $10 million on Wolfe then draft A.J. Epenesa. I'm a fan of A.J. but save the $ for Aaron Jones of Clark next year.
  2. WR in second. No problem. There will be 10-15 WRs that go before that pick so predicting who will be there is impossible, despite what some people say ^
  3. Don't like 3rd round RB value. There are 3 down RB's that will be on the board until the middle of 2nd round. Then there is a no mans land. I think there is value in the 5th - 7th round. We have Aaron and Williams, we can pluck a NFL starter early or a complementary back late or undrafted
  4. Love Biadasz. Gives us flexibility with Lindsey
  5. Not a fan at all of the later rounds. You hit positions but few players I see falling that far or on GB board. Players fall for unexplained reasons but there are a lot of unexplained in this draft.
