Schedule of Events - Eastern Time Zone General Manager (GM) & Creative Writer (CW) Sign Up Open - Wed, March 25th @ 10:00 AM GM & CW Sign Up Close - Tues, March 31st @ 12:00 PM (noon) GM Announcement - Tues, March 31st @ 8:00 PM NFL Team Rosters Locked & Cap Finalized - Thur, April 1st NFL Draft Begins - Fri, April 3rd @ 9:00 AM FFMD is a forum-wide GM mock draft designed to give the members of the site a fun way to pass the time during the dry spells of the offseason taking place April 1st and takes us to just a few days of the irl NFL draft. There were two versions of this mock, however we will only be operating version 2. FFMD II, consists of a full 7 round mock draft with the ability to trade picks and/or players without the stress of a salary cap or the confusion of a free agency. Current free agents, not signed by another team by Apr. 1st are relocated back to the original team. To encourage membership at the GM level our plan is to reduce the typical workload previously required of the general manager. We will be doing the following which in theory will provide you with more time to communicate with your group and not having to worry about keeping track or collecting information. We hope that these changes will encourage you to join the FFMD experience. The “League Office” will post the initial discussion thread aka team war room within each team sub forum. This provides everyone regardless of their level of interest looking at it with all the information they’ll need to participate in a structured format. We’ll ask that each moderator assigned to their team forum pin this war room thread so that it remains at the top of the thread. This war room post will be titled FFMD II ‘20 - [Team Name] Front Office. It will contain links to the primary discussion thread housed in the GM Mock Draft sub forum. Guidelines Important dates (schedule) League workbook (described below) A single google doc workbook is used to keep track of everything FFMD, which will house the following information. Draft board / Draft Order Used to list and track available and selected draftees. This has been used in both tcmd, bdl and other GM mocks for several years with great success. Team Roster sheets for all 32 teams designed to display and track every transaction. Both tcmd and bdl have used something very similar in the past and this will be a much more simplified version of those workbooks. Roster data is collected by us. Important information is displayed and updated automatically. In the past, only the GM and a coGM were the only ones permitted to seek trades from other members. Now any member of your group is allowed to seek out trade inquiries that can be delivered to your war room for debate and vote on. As the GM your responsibilities are a bit more involved than other members within your front office therefore your final vote in which players are selected during the draft and finalizing trades does carry a little more weight, after all you are the General Manager. So for example, if you have a couple different options for an upcoming pick and the war room is split on which player to take as the GM it’s your responsibility to make the final decision. General Managers or an elected member within your front office are required to post each transaction you make within the League Office thread. We will update the workbook based on the data posted. General Manager Best Practices Be a leader not a dictator. Listen to the feedback & suggestions from all participating members of your front office. Keep your war room thread informed Create discussions early on items such as “team needs” so that everyone within your group is on the same page. Stay on top of the action by starting the discussion early enough that your front office has the necessary time to discuss various options. So far, I believe we need: Long-term RT due to Gilbert's age and in case Justin Murray takes a step back or prices himself out of the Cardinals range RG - I don't think we have our starting RG on the roster. JR Sweezy had decent stats, but was beaten often. C - I really like Lamont Gaillard, and I believe he can be a long-term starter at C or either guard spot. He gives the team flexibility to upgrade two spots with one pick if the team drafts or trades for a good center. Potential LG - so far, Justin Pugh has been a bust. He's been hampered by injuries and playing out of position by having to switch to RT multiple times, but maybe the team drafts a LG of the future or trades away Pugh to remove that cap hit. CB - We have Patrick Peterson, Robert Alford, and Byron Murphy as our projected top 3 CBs. PP was fantastic down the stretch last year, but could suffer regression as he ages, and Alford is an older vet coming off of injury. I like Murphy, but he's essentially a slot-only corner and was inconsistent last year. Good teams have depth at corner, and the Cardinals need that. 5-or-3-tech - We have Corey Peters playing nose, with Jordan Phillips playing 3-tech. Zach Allen projects to start at 5-tech. He has a non-stop motor, great power, and sure tackling ability. He's in need of development as a pass rusher. Ideally, we could get someone to contribute to the interior DL. Someone like Derrick Brown offers flexibility to play at all three positions. OLB - Devon Kennard is decent, but I'm not sold on him and having more pass rushers is never a bad thing. I figure he can be an upgrade over Dan Arnold or Maxx Williams when healthy. At the very least, it checks a box off of our potential needs and we still have the ability to take a flyer on someone late in the draft. He's also been asked to cover Cooper Kupp and George Kittle on an every-down basis. He's literally a former DT. Being asked to cover arguably the best slot WR and the best TE in football. Vance Joseph is in over his head. And it doesn't help that he was learning a brand-new position and has had 3 DCs in 3 years, and each one tried to use him differently. Couple that with a rash of injuries in our front seven, and the Cardinals have used him at DE, JACK, SAM, WILL, and MIKE. Even covering Kupp. Did it work? Nope. Of course not! Anthony Barr got wrecked by Kupp and he's basically Reddick had Reddick played LB his whole life. Not sure why Wilks/Joseph thought differently. Scrubs. Reddick can tackle, but he's over-aggresive when it comes to tackling in space. That comes from his background of not really playing in space, and like I said, he hasn't been able to just buckle down and learn the position because they haven't let him have a true position. He's a good blitzer and disruptor with an A+ personality, work ethic, and the athleticism to cover, but a lack of reps and experience to hone his instincts on HOW to go about it. He just needs a change of scenery, and I'm willing to bet that he'll improve a lot under Jim Schwartz in our fake world of football. He hasn't been consistently good and has been embarrassed at times, but I think it's a miracle and testament of his work ethic that he was even able to get to the point that he's not getting destroyed on every play and even playing well at times while learning 3 new playbooks under 3 different head coaches and 3 defensive coordinators, 5 new positions, and literally both base defensive schemes in the past three years. As for Sydney Jones, I love what he brings to the table and he's literally played with Byron Murphy before (who, in turn, played in High School with Christian Kirk and DJ Foster... team chemistry, guys). He's on the upswing, too, much like Reddick (though with Jones it's a steeper slope over a shorter length of time). He was my CB2 behind Marshon Lattimore and a top-20 prospect in 2017. He's hit-and-miss there, just doesn't have the experience he needs, but a lot of him looking bad is due to being given assignments that are really setting him up to fail. Jake Butt is the stud TE from Michigan that won the Ozzie Newsome award in college and was very well-liked, had a shot at being a first-round pick in that loaded 2017 draft, or at least an early day 2 pick, but fell because of a serious injury. And since then he's only played 3 NFL games due to injuries, but for the most part they've been freaky and out of his control similar to Keenan Allen's injuries. He's a great weapon, very smart. They say he's limited as a blocker due to his frame, but that's what they say with literally almost every TE prospect nowadays, and he's a good blocker for his size, gives good effort. Great hands, adept at sitting at soft spots in the zone, can beat man coverage deep, and well-worth a late-round flyer, where he has more promise than any other TE prospect that late in the draft.
