Schedule of Events - Eastern Time Zone

  • General Manager (GM) & Creative Writer (CW) Sign Up Open - Wed, March 25th @ 10:00 AM

  • GM & CW Sign Up Close - Tues, March 31st @ 12:00 PM (noon)

  • GM Announcement - Tues, March 31st @ 8:00 PM

  • NFL Team Rosters Locked & Cap Finalized - Thur, April 1st

  • NFL Draft Begins - Fri, April 3rd @ 9:00 AM

FFMD is a forum-wide GM mock draft designed to give the members of the site a fun way to pass the time during the dry spells of the offseason taking place April 1st and takes us to just a few days of the irl NFL draft.  There were two versions of this mock, however we will only be operating version 2. FFMD II, consists of a full 7 round mock draft with the ability to trade picks and/or players without the stress of a salary cap or the confusion of a free agency.  Current free agents, not signed by another team by Apr. 1st are relocated back to the original team.

To encourage membership at the GM level our plan is to reduce the typical workload previously required of the general manager.  We will be doing the following which in theory will provide you with more time to communicate with your group and not having to worry about keeping track or collecting information.  We hope that these changes will encourage you to join the FFMD experience.

  • The “League Office” will post the initial discussion thread aka team war room within each team sub forum.  This provides everyone regardless of their level of interest looking at it with all the information they’ll need to participate in a structured format.  We’ll ask that each moderator assigned to their team forum pin this war room thread so that it remains at the top of the thread.

    • This war room post will be titled FFMD II ‘20 - [Team Name] Front Office.

      • It will contain links to the primary discussion thread housed in the GM Mock Draft sub forum.

      • Guidelines

      • Important dates (schedule)

      • League workbook (described below)

  • A single google doc workbook is used to keep track of everything FFMD, which will house the following information.

    • Draft board / Draft Order

      • Used to list and track available and selected draftees.

        • This has been used in both tcmd, bdl and other GM mocks for several years with great success.

    • Team Roster sheets for all 32 teams designed to display and track every transaction.  Both tcmd and bdl have used something very similar in the past and this will be a much more simplified version of those workbooks.

      • Roster data is collected by us.

      • Important information is displayed and updated automatically.

  • In the past, only the GM and a coGM were the only ones permitted to seek trades from other members.  Now any member of your group is allowed to seek out trade inquiries that can be delivered to your war room for debate and vote on.

As the GM your responsibilities are a bit more involved than other members within your front office therefore your final vote in which players are selected during the draft and finalizing trades does carry a little more weight, after all you are the General Manager.  So for example, if you have a couple different options for an upcoming pick and the war room is split on which player to take as the GM it’s your responsibility to make the final decision.

General Managers or an elected member within your front office are required to post each transaction you make within the League Office thread.  We will update the workbook based on the data posted.

General Manager Best Practices

  • Be a leader not a dictator.

  • Listen to the feedback & suggestions from all participating members of your front office.

  • Keep your war room thread informed

    • Create discussions early on items such as “team needs” so that everyone within your group is on the same page.

    • Stay on top of the action by starting the discussion early enough that your front office has the necessary time to discuss various options.

    • Give your front office more control to scout for potential trades.

Hello Rams Fans,

We'd love to have one of the Rams' fans represent your forum in our relaunching of FFMD, but we are coming up close to our April 1st GM announcement. If we don't get a someone to step into the GM role from this forum in the next day or so, we are going to start looking at offering the spot to fan of another forum. I hope that if we do decide to go that route that you all will weigh in and help whomever the GM winds up being.

Won't be me. I'm working full time and have to start studying for the bar on top of that on April 1st.

Folks from the Chargers forum can tell you that you don't want me as GM because I'm a slave-driver who will purposefully let picks get overlapped if they haven't been voted out.

That said, I'm more than happy to play support staff and put up systems that let whoever does take the gig have things able to run (relatively) smoothly so long as they actually stay on top of people to know when deadlines are and make sure that they're met.

I will be the Gm of your Rams. Although I live about 20 miles from the stadium I can tell you I don’t know much about your needs. So if I mess things up I apologize. You can always shoot me a PM or post your thoughts here about needs and player fits and interests. Thank you.

I have changed the team mascot to Black Phillip as he is simply better and will make for a better logo than that thing you have now. He is a fearsome creature.

You actually won't find much argument over here.  Black Phillip is a superior option to Seitan the Vegan Sheep, the mascot we recently received from Kroenke's brain trust.

I'm also going to throw out one suggestion that should help integrate @Counselor in around here and allow him to provide some particularly helpful insight.

Given that, as of current writing, we don't know what Staley's defensive scheme is going to be, to-the-letter, ad can only prognosticate based upon the assumption that being from the Fangio tree he'll implement something akin to Fangio's scheme, I'm going to make the strong suggestion that, for the purposes of this exercise, we decide as a sub-forum that, for all intents, and purposes, it is very much similar to Fangio's scheme (which Counselor as a Broncos fan has some recent familiarity with).  Just so that everyone's on the same page and we're able to work from the same model when trying to plug in current players and prospective draft picks.

Thank you sir. Top needs at the moment?

Linebackers are the largest question marks right now.

Presumably we're looking at a front 7 that looks like (and this is in the alignment as I best understand a Fangio-styled "3-4" realizing that the shape itself is somewhat fluid by design):

                                                         Aaron Donald (3T)  -  A'Shawn Robinson (Shade-1T/OT; 2-gap)  -  Michael Brockers (5T; 2-gap)

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo/Samson Ebukam                    -              Micah Kiser           -           Troy Reeder/Natrez Patrick                -                          Leonard Floyd

------------

With Jachai Polite as something of a wild card that we signed to our practice squad and a futures contract this offseason.  Reeder logged 8 starts last season after Bryce Hager went on IR.  Kiser's coming back from a torn pec.  So ILB is a very likely need; EDGE would be nice but, as jrry and I were discussing in a different thread, this isn't a stellar EDGE class past the 1st round.

Greg Gaines, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Tanzel Smart, and Marquise Copeland likely give us what depth we'll need on the DL, unless value on Day 3 is screaming at us that it's too great to shine.

We can cobble together the likely starters (LG still a shade of a question mark given that Noteboom is coming off a knee injury suffered midseason) on the OL from our current stock, but Havenstein's coming off a year where he underachieved/regressed to the mean, Blythe probably should be playing center more than RG (and certainly more than Brian Allen should be starting at center), and Blythe's only back on a 1-year deal.  So someone with C/G flexibility is very likely a need moving forward.  A WR would be nice given the depth of the class (and the fact that the trio of Kupp - even after he's extended, Wood, and Cooks likely is in its last year with the club), but may be a bit of a luxury pick, given that Josh Reynolds is still here.

Henderson will and should get first crack at starter detail at RB and Malcolm Brown is still here for at least another year.  So, contrary to what a some mocks want to throw out there, RB isn't some glaring need, but after pressing needs are addressed value should likely at least be considered.  CB3/4 and S3 depth should likely be addressed at some point, but I've noticed a lot of people putting up mocks only seemed to take note that Weddle retired and not that John Johnson is going to be returning from injury and that we drafted Taylor Rapp highly last year (and that he was very good when he did play).

You already covered it with announcing a new logo.

For the actual team, I'd say ILB, EDGE, and OL. ILB is probably the biggest need, but whatever value falls of the 3 would work (with any insane value at RB being a distant possibility).
