  • DT Shelby Harris: 1 yr $5 mil: Harris is the best DT left in FA. He's more of a pass rusher than a run stopper, but I'm fine with that trade off as Solomon Thomas is more of a run stopper than pass rusher.
  • TE David Morgan: 1 yr $800k: I wanted to bring in a blocking TE since with lost Toilolo. The draft doesn't have many blocking specialist in the later rounds, so I went out and signed one of the top blockers in the NFL to hold down the TE3 spot.
  • EDGE Damontre Moore 1 yr $800k: I was really impressed with Moore last season and I wanted to bring him back to compete for a spot. Blair probably won't play for the first half of the season and we have no other depth at EDGE. We're all praying Bosa doesn't get hurt again and Ford can't stay healthy. We know the injury gods have it out for the 49ers and we're probably going to be playing with the lead a ton again this season. We need quality depth players at EDGE.

Trades

  • WR Marquise Goodwin to the Ravens for 5th round pick (158): I think this trade makes sense for both sides. Baltimore gets more speed and another weapon, we get draft capital.
  • QB C.J. Beathard to the Bengals for 6th round pick (181): Frankly, this trade is a year late. The Bengals want to get rid of Dalton and draft Burrow. Bringing in a cheap, but somewhat established QB that could start the first few games and be easily replaceable makes sense for Cinci.

Draft

1.13 (From Colts): Jerry Jeudy, WR Alabama: What's there to say about him that we don't already know. He's dynamic, electric, and smart receiver who will thrive in our offense. Him, paired with Deebo and Kittle will make for a dangerous receiving trio. I could put Lamb here and feel just as good about the pick. What's stopping me from doing so is Jeudy's elite route running and the incredible nuance to his game.

*TRADE* - 49ers trade 1st (31) and a 6th (181) to the Colts for a 2nd (44) and a 3rd (75)

2.44 (From Colts): Kyle Dugger, SS Lenoir-Rhyne: Dugger has a greater-than 99% SPARQ score, which means he's more athletic than 99% of all safeties in the NFL. Not only is he the elite of the elite in physical talent, he’s a ball-hawking, hard-hitting safety that can play close to the LOS or deep coverage.

What's so attractive to me about Dugger is that he's almost a carbon-copy of Tartt, but with more speed and coverage ability. He will immediately relegate Marcell Harris to strictly special teams duties, but even with that, Dugger is considered an exceptional kick coverage player as well. I chose Dugger over a corner here because of the injury history with both safeties. We need someone who can step up and fill in when either Ward or Tartt inevitably go down.

3.75 (From Colts): Curtis Weaver, EDGE Boise State: EDGE defender with size and speed. The thing I really like about Weaver is that he wins with speed and technique on the edge, but he's also an accomplished run defender. He's not going to set the edge like a big end with power, but he will knife through blockers to disrupt rushing lanes. Weaver will get plenty of playing time this year late in games when we're playing with the lead, which will help him fine-tune his pass-rushing skills. I see Weaver as a rotational piece this year and pushing for significant snaps next season. He will really soften the blow of potentially moving on from Ford next season.

*TRADE* - 49ers trade 5th (158), 6th (211), and 7th (246) to the Eagles for a 4th (127)

4.127 (From Eagles): Matt Hennessy, IOL Temple: This trade might be unrealistic as it seems hard to believe that Shanny/Lynch would trade up for a OG, but Hennessy is definitely worth it. He does not possess overwhelming strength, but he is a very sound technician with above-average athleticism (66% SPARQ score). From what I’ve read, he’s tailor-made for a zone-blocking scheme, excels in pass blocking, and is extremely smart. He will be quality depth this season and will push someone for starting snaps next season. Every scouting report I've read on him raves about his high IQ and love for fine-tuning his technique.

5.157 (From Broncos): Harrison Hand, CB Temple: Everything I read about Hand makes me more and more excited about him. He’s super athletic (95% SPARQ score), he’s tough and doesn’t back down, he excels in zone coverage but is no slouch in man, and he loves to tackle. He’s very much in the mold of Rock-Ya Sin, his teammate from last season, but is a better zone defender than Sin. He gets to learn from Sherman this year, provide quality depth, then possibly push for starting time next season. Hand is pretty similar to Emmanuel Moseley in they're both top-tier athletes, they both love to hit people, and they're sticky with their coverage. Hand is slightly bigger than Moseley, as well. Even if Hand never develops into a starting corner, he should be fantastic depth.

5.177: Dalton Keene, TE Virginia Tech: Imagine Kyle Juszczyk with more speed and agility, but not as good of a blocker. That’s Keene in a nutshell. Keene is a superior athlete (80% SPARQ) who lined up everywhere on offense for VA Tech. He was primarily a big slot who would kick inside sometimes to play the traditional TE role, but he also caught a ton of passes out of the backfield as well.

What Keene lacks in blocking, he more than makes up in the passing game. He’s deadly on screens and quick outs, but can also find holes in the zone and sit. He’s not your typical 3rd TE as he’s not much of a blocker, but he can be a real versatile chess piece for the 49ers. I see Keene as a long-term TE2 who could end up being very similar as Delaine Walker, but bigger and faster.

7.218 (From Lions): James Robinson, RB Illinois State: Robinson is a bit of a do-it-all back who may slip in the draft because of competition level. He’s a decent pass-catcher who can also pass-block pretty well. He’s not super fast, but has elite overall athleticism (87% SPARQ score). He reminds me a lot of Doug Martin. Small but dense (5’9 220), good at everything but great at nothing. If he hits, he plays Tevin Coleman’s role (1st & 2nd-down back), but also can play a little 3rd down because of his pass-catching and blocking ability. He could be a nice rotational back for our stable. I see Robinson as someone who will either take the RB4 role from Wilson, or will live on the PS until someone goes down with an injury.

I would be pretty happy with this. I think a 5th for Goodwin is possible, though I dont think we get rid of Beathard.

The only issue I have is the EDGE in the 3rd, I would really like to see a CB in the first 3 rounds, but I understand going EDGE here.

Heck of a job if Weaver lasts that far. Absurd pass rush win rate (if in the Mountain West). He's an average athlete, but a total technician. Reminds me of a more refined Marlon Davidson.

I've seen a comp on his as Derek Barnett from the Eagles. I like that comp. I really don't know if he would last until the 3rd, but just about every mock I see has him late second/early third.

I was really thinking about pulling the trigger on either A.J. Terrell or Trevon Diggs in the second, but passing up on Dugger was too much for me since the safety class really falls off after the top couple of guys. I thought Dugger & Hand was a better combo than Terrell/Diggs & some PS safety.

Yeah, I really like what Dugger brings to the position, I guess it all depends on what we do with Tartt after the season and what his price tag will be. It would be nice to have Dugger sit and be ready to go in 2021.

On the opposite side, I would really like to have early round talent at CB just because we dont know whats gonna happen with Sherman after this season and Moseley/ Witherspoon is still questionable.

Totally get it with the corner group, but I'm a believer in Moseley. He's shown me that he has the tools to succeed and doesn't run hot and cold like Spoon.

Another reason why I wanted Dugger was the looming decision with Tartt. Tartt's cap hit this season is $6.25 mil, which is the 9th highest in the NFL. Is average per year is 5th highest with $6.5 mil. He played pretty well in 2019 and if he does the same or better in 2020, he could be looking at a big pay day of 7-9 mil a year for his next contract. On the flip side, he will be 30 after this season, so he's probably not looking at a record-breaking deal that will reset the market.

Oh dont get me wrong,I think Moseley played extremely well considering that was basically his rookie season and I am pretty comfortable with him starting opposite Sherman. It's when Sherman exits is my concern, I am not comfortable rolling into 2021 with Sherman gone and Witherspoon starting next to Moseley.Would love to have a talented corner sitting behind Sherman this season and picking his brain, ready to start 2021 if Sherman exits.

But again, you and I are on the same page for sure for the most part. Dugger strikes me as a player that, if you dont draft, will come back to haunt you.Really want to see what he can do in the NFL
