You guys upgraded and saved money losing Brockers. The problem with Wolfe is you can’t depend on him to be there for a stretch run. But he’ll play his *** off when he’s out there. Also one of the better sound bytes in the league.

Haha awesome...can’t wait for his ep of Ravens Wired

I think this is a smart signing. The only way Brockers for $10 mill is a better deal is because Brockers has had a more reliable bill of health, but clearly if we were also  worried about Brockers' reliability going forward, that goes out the window somewhat. At which point Wolfe for more than half the price feels like a lot better of a deal.

Wow. Absolutely love this deal.

Yup, can't believe it. Makes you wonder why the Broncos wouldn't re-sign him at this price though? Could be a durability thing.

I know one thing about Wolfe. He's going to be a fast favorite in Baltimore among the fans. The guy brings it and has swag for days.

Hopefully he can stay healthy and give us 16+ games this year (something he's only done 3/8 times in his career).  If he can, this should be a good deal.

I'd like to see what Brian McFarland has to say about where the cap is but from what I'm seeing, this looks about right. Let's get some interior o-line help now.

Pretty sure it puts us pretty much back to where we were when he was factoring in the deal Brockers was supposed to sign considering the first year cap hit of that was only $5m

100% about durability. 2 of our 3 big free agent signings last year basically didn’t play at all. After adding Casey they were only going to bring back one of Shelby Harris or Wolfe, and Shelby has played 48 of a possible 48 games for us.

PFF: "In every single season of his eight-year career, Derek Wolfe has been a better run-defender than pass-rusher. Ever since his transition to 3-tech in 2015, Wolfe has produced an above-average run-defense grade with three of the five seasons among the top 25. His pass-rushing though has been far more inconsistent. He ranked 25th in pass-rush grade in 2019 but posted pass-rush grades in the 50s in the three years prior and was still only 41st in pressure rate. He’s a solid option on the interior, but for the right price."

Chose Baltimore over Houston.

Not sure how he had computed Brockers numbers or what, but the first year cap was only $5m but with the signing bonus factored in that would’ve been an additional amount. I know $21m was guaranteed in that deal so it likely had a signing bonus of $10m, with year two and year three roster bonuses; making his year one payout similar to Campbell’s.

Without diving too far into the hypothetical, I’m sure that deal would’ve likely been roughly $8-9m on the cap year one once his bonuses were factored.

Whereas this deal likely has play time incentives along the lines of “if you play all at least 50% of defensive snaps on the season” or something like that. So upfront as it doesn’t have bonuses, just a salary, we could be talking about $5m in upfront savings.

Which could be enough money to make a move at those unexpected cap casualties that tend to sometimes happen after June 1st.

After their train wreck of an offseason that would’ve been an easy decision for me as well.

Derek Wolfe isn’t as impactful as what I believe Michael Brockers would’ve been, but he’s also clearly not a long term option and thus I could easily see us procuring a Justin Madubuike or Raekwon Davis in the second round and that giving the overall potential of the unit that much more juice.

That and we have more money to work with. Clowney has yet to sign and what type of coup would it be if we could finally trade Judon for a day two pick and then sign Clowney to a lovely value deal. Clearly he hasn’t been happy with what he’s received and who better to swoop in and sign him.
