Bcuz as great as it is, it’s an action/adventure movie not a comedy but I digress...

Have you seen some of the nominations, or winners? Nothing makes sense

If it was to lose to  The Princess Bride and or Ferris Bueller it would show that...

TediousDirtyAndeancondor-size_restricted

I could see Planes,Trains & Automobiles or This is Spinal Tap winning over it but that is it, not those other two are garbage films.

There is so many funny parts of this movie you can barely count them all, this is just one character and it does not even include Spaulding's nose picking scene.

I'll give you asthma!

so instead of nominating Princess Bride to Fantasy (which it should/could win) in the 80s, you all nom'd it to Comedy (which it isn't) and it is going to narrowly lose.  And then it can't be re-nom'd for Fantasy.  Good job!

Pretty sure it can be re-nommed.  Outpost has nominated The Thing 3 or 4 times already.  It'll be in my list when we hit fantasy, but I agree that it shouldn't be on the comedy list.

Why can't it be nominated again?

it would be tough between Willow, Princess Bride, Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, and Beastmaster

It can be re-nominated if it loses here. This is deciding the brackets. If it wins, its in the bracket. If it loses, it's not in a bracket. We can't have 2 of the same movie in the brackets.

let's be honest, if it weren't an administrative clusterf**   each "round" of brackets would be done as all genres concurrently on a per-decade basis to prevent the possibility of a film winning more than once.  The fact it's ad-hoc bandaided via a rule doesn't change the fact that the practical outcome of the process would be what it is, a film can't realistcally be nominated to the voting round in more than one genre.

sometimes movies arent defined to one genre

for instance, Return of the Living Dead is both the best comedy and horror film of the 80s

in the ncaa, it would be like the selection committee   picking the "West"  , letting the west playout, then saying  "hey Gonzaga lost too early, let's put them in the East now which is played next week"  . There's a reason all the sub-brackets are selected, and played, simultaneously.
