Gravedigger93 vs his homies in GER/AUT/CH Mock

As every year I took over Gute's responsibilities in the annual Mock Draft of our german NFL message board, competing with 31 other guys to put up the best draft class. It's going the full 7 rounds, but as the time windows in rounds 5 to 7 are restricted to 3h after last pick, I shifted my responsibilities to my austrian Packer friend. It just wasn't possible to do it living in NC now.

That's what I ended up with:

Round 1

#1 Cincinnati Bengals - Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
#2 Washington Redskins - Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
#3 Miami Dolphins - Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
#4 Jacksonville Jaguars (from New York Giants) - Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
#5 Detroit Lions (from Miami) - Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn
#6 Los Angeles Chargers - Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
#7 Carolina Panthers - Jeff Odukah, CB, Ohio State
#8 Arizona Cardinals - Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama
#9 New York Giants (from Jacksonville) - Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
#10 Cleveland Browns - Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
#11 New York Jets - Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
#12 Las Vegas Raiders - CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
#13 San Francisco 49ers (from Indianapolis) - Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
#14 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
#15 Denver Broncos - Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
#16 Atlanta Falcons - CJ Henderson, CB, Florida
#17 Minnesota Vikings (from Cowboys) - Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
#18 Miami Dolphins (from Pittsburgh) - Grant Delpit, S, LSU
#19 Las Vegas Raiders (from Chicago) - Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma
#20 Jacksonville Jaguars (from Los Angeles Rams) - Yetur Gross Matos, DE, Penn State
#21 Philadelphia Eagles - Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson
#22 Minnesota Vikings (from Buffalo) - Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU
#23 New England Patriots - A.J. Epenesa, DE, Iowa
#24 New Orleans Saints - K'Lavon Chaisson, OLB, LSU
#25 Dallas Cowboys (from Vikings) - Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama
#26 Miami Dolphins (from Houston) - Austin Jackson, OT, USC
#27 Seattle Seahawks - Josh Jones, OT, Houston
#28 Baltimore Ravens - Patrick Queen, LB, LSU
#29 Tennessee Titans - Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah

#30 Green Bay Packers - Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor

I was hoping that either Murray or Queen will make it to 30, but the Ravens killed it 2 picks ahead of me. With the best OTs also off board I went with Denzel Mims, a WR that seems to fit exactly what Gute is looking for. Height. With 6'3 he fits the mold as J'Mon Moore, MVS, EQ, Lazard, Funchess and Kumerow (don't count him as a Gute aquisition) are all 6'3 and taller. Plus he adds speed and an incredible catch radius to it. Needs to learn some route running but should be fine as an instant weapon on the other side of Adams

#31 Los Angeles Chargers (from 49ers) - Jordan Love, QB, Utah State
#32 Kansas City Chiefs - Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU

Round 2

#33 Cincinnati Bengals - Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin
#34 New York Giants (from Indianapolis via Washington) - Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan
#35 Detroit Lions - Terrell Lewis, DE, Alabama
#36 Indianapolis Colts (from New York Giants) - Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU
#37 San Francisco 49ers (from Chargers) - Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU
#38 New York Jets (from Carolina) - Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado
#39 Detroit Lions (from Miami) - Jacob Eason, QB, Washington
#40 Houston Texans (from Arizona) - Jonathan Greenard, DE, Florida
#41 Cleveland Browns - Antoine Winfield, Jr., S, Minnesota
#42 New York Giants (from Jacksonville) - Julian Okwara, DE, Notre Dame
#43 Chicago Bears (from Las Vegas) - A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson
#44 Indianapolis Colts - Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU
#45 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia
#46 Denver Broncos - Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia
#47 Atlanta Falcons - Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&M
#48 Carolina Panthers (from New York Jets) - Lloyd Cushenberry, Center, LSU
#49 Pittsburgh Steelers - Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
#50 Cincinnati Bengals (from Chicago) - Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
#51 Dallas Cowboys - K.J. Hamler, WR, Penn State
#52 Los Angeles Rams - Tyler Biadasz, C, Wisconsin
#53 Seattle Seahawks (from Eagles) - Josh Uche, OLB, Michigan
#54 Buffalo Bills - Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-Rhyne
#55 Baltimore Ravens (from Patriots via Falcons) - Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma
#56 Miami Dolphins (from New Orleans) - D'Andre Swift, RB, Georgia
#57 Houston Texans - Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State
#58 Dallas Cowboys (from Minnesota) - Curtis Weaver, DE, Boise State
#59 Philadelphia Eagles (from Seahawks) - Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USC
#60 Baltimore Ravens - Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State
#61 Tennessee Titans - Marlon Davidson, DT, Auburn

#Trade:

Green Bay is sending selections #62, #175 and #209
Tampa Bay is sending selections #76, #117 and #139

The Buccs sent me an offer for a trade and unfortunately this Buccs guy is hard to convince. My plan was not to spend 209, but he wouldn't agree without and my board was full of names at that time. If I stayed put, Prince Tega Wanogho would have been the selection.

#62 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from Green Bay) - J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State
#63 Kansas City Chiefs (from San Francisco) - Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU
#64 Seattle Seahawks (from Kansas City) - Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois

Round 3

#65 Chicago Bears (from Cincinnati) - Jonah Jackson, G, Ohio State
#66 Washington Redskins - Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame
#67 Jacksonville Jaguars (from Detroit) - Damon Arnette, CB, Ohio State
#68 New York Jets (from New York Giants) - Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn
#69 Carolina Panthers - Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama
#70 Detroit Lions (from Miami) - Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, Auburn
#71 Los Angeles Chargers - Jabari Zuniga, DE, Florida
#72 Arizona Cardinals - Jordan Elliott, DT, Missouri
#73 Detroit Lions (from Jacksonville) - Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan
#74 Las Vegas Raiders (from Cleveland) - Ashtyn Davis, S, California
#75 Indianapolis Colts - Lucas Niang, OT, TCU

#76 Green Bay Packers (from Tampa Bay) - Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, Appalachian State

With missing out on both Murray and Queen in the first round I went with my home state boy Akeem Davis-Gaither. Great in coverage and yes, I NEEDED THAT BADLY. I hate when ILBs cannot even spell coverage and we had that for a long time. Needs to bulk up a bit to get better off blocks, but all in all a player that should help immediately

#77 Denver Broncos - Matthew Peart, OT, Connecticut
#78 Atlanta Falcons - Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech
#79 Carolina Panthers (from New York Jets) - Netane Muti, G, Fresno State
#80 Cleveland Browns (from Las Vegas) - Malik Harrison, LB, Ohio State
#81 New England Patriots (from Las Vegas Raiders via Chicago) - Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame
#82 Dallas Cowboys - Matt Hennessy, C, Temple
#83 Denver Broncos (from Pittsburgh) - Troy Dye, LB, Oregon
#84 Los Angeles Rams - Anfernee Jennings, LB, Alabama
#85 Miami Dolphins (from Detroit via Philadelphia) - Cam Akers, RB, Florida State
#86 Buffalo Bills - Darrell Taylor, DE, Tennessee
#87 Las Vegas Raiders (from New England) - Zack Moss, RB, Utah
#88 New Orleans Saints - Robert Hunt, OG, Louisiana
#89 Minnesota Vikings - Ben Bartch, OT, Saint John's
#90 Baltimore Ravens (from Houston) - Bradlee Anae, DE, Utah
#91 Las Vegas Raiders (from Seattle via Houston) - Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma
#92 Houston Texans (from Baltimore) - Shane Lemieux, G, Oregon
#93 Tennessee Titans - Alex Taylor, OT, South Carolina State

#94 Green Bay Packers - Davon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State

After the Mostert massacre I knew I had to invest in the DL, but the value wasn't there in earlier rounds (expected Davis to drop with my downtrade). With Hamilton you get a Day 1 Run Stuffer that has also upside in the pass rush due to his limited snap count at OSU. I think he might be a good help next to Clark

#95 Denver Broncos (from San Francisco) - Troy Pride, CB, Notre Dame
#96 Philadelphia Eagles (from Chiefs) - Terrell Burgess, S, Utah
#97 Cleveland Browns (from Houston)* - Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota
#98 New England Patriots* - Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina
#99 New York Giants* - Van Jefferson, WR, Florida
#100 Minnesota Vikings (from Patriots)* - Amik Robertson, CB, Louisiana Tech
#101 Kansas City Chiefs (from Seahawks via Eagles)* - Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming
#102 Pittsburgh Steelers* - John Simpson, OG, Clemson
#103 Seattle Seahawks (from Eagles)* - Leki Fotu, DT, Utah
#104 Los Angeles Rams* - Joe Bachie, LB, Michigan State
#105 New England Patriots (from Vikings)* - Nick Harris, C, Washington
#106 Houston Texans (from Baltimore)* - Gabriel Davis, WR, UCF

Round 4

#107 Chicago Bears (from Cincinnati) - Geno Stone, S, Iowa
#108 Washington Redskins - Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton
#109 Detroit Lions - Willie Gay, LB, Mississippi State
#110 New York Giants - Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA
#111 Baltimore Ravens (from Houston via Miami) - Ben Bredeson, G, Michigan
#112 San Francisco 49ers (from Chargers) - Harrison Bryant, Florida Atlantic
#113 New York Jets (from Carolina) - Brycen Hopkins, TE, Purdue
#114 Arizona Cardinals - Antonio Gibson, RB, Memphis
#115 Cleveland Browns - Trey Adams, OT, Washington
#116 Jacksonville Jaguars - Antonio Gandy Golden, WR, Liberty

#117 Green Bay Packers (from Tampa Bay) - Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU

For sure not a Day 1 starter, but the OL is set for now and he is an intriguing prospect that can develop into a starting LT with more coaching. With Bakh's contract on the line in 2021 you can follow him a year and then decide.

#118 Denver Broncos - Damien Lewis, G, LSU
#119 Atlanta Falcons - Julian Blackmon, S, Utah
#120 New York Jets - Khalid Kareem, DE, Notre Dame
#121 New Orleans Saints (from Las Vegas) - Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia
#122 Indianapolis Colts - Isaiah Hodgins, WR, Oregon State
#123 Vikings (from Dallas) - Jason Strowbridge, DE, Vikings
#124 Pittsburgh Steelers - A.J. Dillon, RB, Boston College
#125 New England Patriots (from Chicago) - Hunter Bryant, TE, Washington
#126 Los Angeles Rams - K´Von Wallace, S, Clemson
#127 Philadelphia Eagles - Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State
#128 Buffalo Bills - Lamical Perine, RB, Florida
#129 Baltimore Ravens (from New England) - Lynn Bowden, WR, Kentucky
#130 Las Vegas Raiders (from New Orleans) - Logan Stenberg, G, Kentucky
#131 Arizona Cardinals (from Houston) - Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri
#132 Minnesota Vikings - Lamar Jackson, CB, Nebraska
#133 Philadelphia Eagles (from Seahawks) - Trevis Gipson, DE, Tulsa
#134 Baltimore Ravens - Thaddeus Moss, TE, LSU
#135 Pittsburgh Steelers (from Tennessee via Miami) - Alton Robinson, DE, Syracuse

#136 Green Bay Packers - Jack Driscoll, OT, Auburn

I liked Driscoll as much as I liked Charles for 117 and as my main target in Randall Cobb 2.0 went off board  earlier, I just thought to back it up. There are 2 Tackle spots to be filled in 2021 and Driscoll loves Bakh's tape and could also be switched to G.

#137 Jacksonville Jaguars (from San Francisco via Denver) - Solomon Kindley , OG, Georgia
#138 Kansas City Chiefs - Devin Asiasi, TE, UCLA

#139 Green Bay Packers (from Tampa Bay) - James Morgan, QB, FIU

I know everyone will hate me and shout out "REACH!!!!!!" :D If I had kept my 5th rounder, I'd probably waited until then and got screwed. The Colts were admitting that they focused on on Morgan with 150. I'm glad I got my Ashwaubenon Boy back to where he grew up und love everything he brings with. For sure he is not the dynamic weapon like the modern QB generation is (Jackson, Mahomes) , but he has all tools to be a successful pocket passer (if the OL stands long enough :D )

#140 New York Giants (from Jacksonville via Chicago) - Michael Ojemuida, CB, Iowa
#141 Miami Dolphins* - Alex Highsmith, DE, Charlotte
#142 Washington Redskins* - Tyre Phillips, OT, Mississippi State
#143 Atlanta Falcons (from Ravens)* - Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford
#144 Seattle Seahawks* - Reggie Robinson II, CB, Tulsa
#145 Philadelphia Eagles* - Davion Taylor, LB, Colorado
#146 Philadelphia Eagles* - Alohi Gillman, S, Notre Dame

There were players that got drafted right ahead of me, but also there were people falling that I didn't expect.

Any toughts on the overall performance? I'll post rounds 5 to 7 of my Packer buddy once they are done.

Other than the first round pick, I could live with this. In this scenario at 30 I either trade down or take Jordan Love.

Unfortunately no trade down offers for this pick, but yes, Jordan Love was on my mind for this pick as well and if Mims wasn't there I might have picked him. But at the end the "win now" mentality beat out the future ;)

I guess I would not pass on a future franchise QB for a good WR in a draft full of good WR's. Packers already have 10 picks and really don't need a bunch more of mid round draft picks.

I'm torn here, cause i love the mock format. I'm not a fan of Mims in the first round, but given the way the board fell i can see why you went that way. Do you have Mims ranked higher than guys like Fulton and Blacklock? Those would probably have been my choices.

I would have no problem with Fulton at 30 either.

I'm impressed by the amount of work you put in with all the other team selections through 5 rounds. I don't see Dobbins falling to 62. I think he's an early 2nd if not a late 1st. He's been way too dominant at OSU for multiple seasons to fall that far. On the other hand, this isn't 2003 where he would've been a sure fire top-5 pick IMHO.

I don't see us going ILB at 76 either and Hamilton won't make it to 94. That said, I'd flip those two picks around and then the first three rounds would be realistic. Some would have a problem going back-to-back OT's, but given our history we would hit on both players and both are selected where they'll probably fall. Love it.

I think you're right, but the whole point of this mock is this is actually how the board fell.

I do like the back-to-back OTs though. That room is one injury from being a mess.

I didn't consider Fulton with 30, honestly, but I also took a deep look on Blacklock. But at the end I decided against him, because I wasn't sure if he is a great fit for a base 3-4. But yes, I can see the argument that Pettine barely plays base 3-4 anyway.

As pgwingman mentioned that was exactly how the board fell. I only put in the effort of the Packers selections, 31 other couch GMs were responsible for the rest ;) The Packers track record of mid round OL is pretty good (Bakh, Sitton, Lang, Linsley, Tretter), so why not take two, especially given that I had a hard time to select between Charles and Driscoll at first place.

Yeah, those last three rounds are a big "no" from me. Some of the guys picked two or three picks after ours are guys that we've interviewed and said interviewees are prospects that are far better than who you have us selecting.

As I said twice. I DID NOT DO THE LAST 3 ROUNDS. Complaints can be sent to Austria.
