Corona is being used as an excuse for this. They dont bring in UDFA post draft for physicals to sign them so what's the point or reasoning? They start calling them in rds 6/7  to engage possibilities IF those players are not drafted.

Now is the UDFA process of adding players to the PS going to be more difficult given the "virtual BS" draft atmosphere,  sure. However those who have a reliable , proven system in place will be fine. Those that suck, will still suck.

thats not the point of the argument on whether they should extend the draft. It is not about bringing them in after the draft. It is the issue of not being able to meet with them during pro days, private work outs and meetings. yes you can talk over facetime and you can see their video if there is any. Keep in mind most small schools dont have the funds for AV to have legit videos to see every player. Having a private workout allows teams to see what that guy can do in person when asked to perform a special task. You are unable to do your complete due diligence on a player in this situation that we are experiencing so adding a couple more rounds can better assist a player getting an opportunity to land on a team and an organization has some leeway of getting a guy they werent sure would be available. No matter what it is to late in to the game that adding this would be close to impossible. Had this been brought up in March then this may seem like the best thing to do. Some players are going to get screwed because they werent given the moment to shine at a work out or pro day particularly the smaller school players. Its a job interview and if you were stuck only having one opportunity over other guys who have had 2-3 opportunities to show what they are about hinders their chances of being drafted and I think that is why some GMs wanted to extend it to give organizations a chance to see what they can do without having to go through the UDFA process. Again its only 1-3 rounds and usually teams pick up 5+ UDFA to go in to camp so its not like this is going to impact the UDFA portion of it.

This is the point I was making. This is why Bell/Brown wanted to leave

Then what is the point of the point you are making?

You are also only half right with the above. Brown left because 1) he is crazy and 2) he ended up with a similar target share with JuJu and saw the second year guy get voted Team MVP and people with large egos dont do very well with that. Him going bonkers had nothing to do with the guarantees. He was more than happy to sign that contract when it was offered.

So one guy -- Bell, which also had more than just guarantees to do with his decisions. He wanted to hit FA and completely shatter the Running Back ceiling.

Steelers dont pay guarantees. Great. They don't miss out on player either because of it. So whats the end game here?

I think this is exactly the point that the majority of people have made - the contract structure that the steelers offer is not competitive relative to the rest of the market. When guys have choices (such as UDFAs), they tend to sign elsewhere because they can get more guaranteed money.

That's why everyone is saying this is an obvious ploy from a GM who is bad at signing UDFAs to be able to control the rights to guys that would have chosen to go elsewhere.

Gonna be honest, I have a really hard time understanding how guys unlikely to see contract one are so overly concerned with what happens in contract 2.

Think it might have more to do with the low percentage of UDFAs making the roster? Or we just gonna stick with the argument we have no evidence with?
