Round 2

*The Seattle Seahawks trade 2[59] and 3[101] to the Chicago Bears for 2[50].
*The Las Vegas Raiders trade 3[80] and 3[91] to the Los Angeles Rams for 2[57].

2[33] Cincinnati Bengals: Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech
2[34] Indianapolis Colts: Michael Pittman, WR, USC
2[35] Detroit Lions: Yetur Gross-Matos, DE, Penn State
2[36] NY Giants: A.J Espenesa, DE, Iowa

2[41] Cleveland Browns: Antoine Winfield Jr, S, Minnesota

2[43] Chicago Bears [LVR]: A.J Terrell, CB, Clemson, 6'1" 195lbs, 4.42 [40], 15 reps, 34.5" vert, 10'9" broad

I think that the Bears should go offense in the 2nd round, but there is a good chance that the best players staring at them are CBs, which is a premium position and hard to argue against picking. I think the Bears are comfortable with Toliver starting, but I also do not think they would turn away from adding a talented and cheap player at an important position. Terrell has elite size, really good physical tools and has been a 2 year starter on an elite defense. He has 6 career picks, 5 in his 2 seasons as a starter, and gives the Bears a big, physical press man CB to play across from Kyle Fuller on the cheap for the next 4 years. Having an elite defense, not a good one, an elite defense is going to be the Bears best chance to make some noise in 2020 and you cannot have an elite defense with a potential weakness at #2 CB. Biggs and Jahns have both identified CB as a serious 2nd round target for the Bears and they are very plugged in.

2[44] Indianapolis Colts: Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah
2[45] Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Clyde Helaire-Edwards, RB, LSU
2[46] Denver Broncos: Neville Gallimore, DT, OU
2[47] Atlanta Falcons: J.K Dobbins [Ohio St]
2[48] New York Jets: Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona St
2[49] Pittsburgh Steelers: Patrick Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
2[50] Seattle Seahawks [Chi]: Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois
2[51] Dallas Cowboys: Kyle Duggar, S, Lenoir Rhyne
2[52] Los Angeles Rams: Julian Okwara, OLB, Notre Dame
2[53] Philadelphia Eagles: Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado
2[54] Buffalo Bills: Cam Akers, RB, Florida St
2[55] Baltimore Ravens [Atl]: Lloyd Cushenberry, C, LSU
2[56] Miami Dolphins [NO]: Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise St
2[57] Las Vegas Raiders [LAR]: Jalen Hurts, QB, OU
2[58] Minnesota Vikings: Curtis Weaver, DE, Boise St

2[59] Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame, 6'4" 238lbs, 4.42 [40], 19 reps, 40.5", 10'6" broad

The Bears need to get more dynamic on offense. They need to add speed and play making at WR or TE, or both. Claypool is a dynamic athlete who can play at the X position or at the U TE. He gives the Bears a big dynamic player that can stretch the field and win contested catches down the field. Last season he averaged 15+ yards per catch, added 13 TDs, and then showed out at the Senior Bowl. Claypool gives the Bears a dynamic threat that can be moved around and used in a number of different spots. Claypool is also a very physical and willing blocker, so perhaps as an additional benefit the Bears will not be a pathetic screen team anymore.

3[97] Cleveland Browns: Rashard Lawrence, DT, LSU
3[98] New England Patriots: Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina
3[99] New York Giants: Gabriel Davis, WR, UCF
3[100] New England Patriots: Bradlae Anee, DE, Utah

3[101] Chicago Bears [Sea]: Ben Bredeson, OG, Michigan, 6'5" 315lbs

The Bears obviously need help on the OL, but I am starting to get to the point where I think they will draft more premium positions with the higher picks. There is really nice OG talent in round 3 if the Bears can move down and get into round 3. Bredeson has the size and the power the Bears lack and the athletic ability for the zone run plays. The knock on Bredeson is that his arms are short, but he has the phone booth power to compensate. Bredeson spent last season working with Castillo, which should lessen the transition time as well. Bredeson is a lunch pail fighter who should bring a needed attitude adjustment to the Bears line, which was way too soft last season. Competition at RG will give the Bears options and a possible long term RG.

3[102] Pittsburgh Steelers: Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri
3[103] Philadelphia Eagles: Terrell Burgess, S, Utah
3[104] Los Angeles Rams: Khaled Kareem, OLB, Notre Dame
3[105] Minnesota Vikings: Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa
3[106] Baltimore Ravens: Leki Fotu, DT, Utah

5[163] Charlie Heck, OT, UNC, 6'8" 311lbs, 5.16 [40], 21 reps, 28" 9'4" broad

If the Bears do not go OL with their 2nd round picks they should add volume to the position and let Castillo work. Heck comes from NFL bloodlines and has ties to Nagy. He has experience at LT and RT, NFL size and athletic ability, and at a minimum should be a high quality swing OT. Massie and Leno were not good last season, both regressed and you simply cannot go into 2020 with no competition or options at OT. You have to be able to pull Leno or Massie if they continue to struggle or are injured. Heck gives the Bears a developmental option with a high floor and NFL ready technique and coaching.

6[196] Antoine Brooks, S, Maryland, 5'11" 220lbs, 4.64 [40], 18 reps, 34.5" vert

Brooks 100% has a small Bears helmet next to his name on Pace's draft board. He is a team captain and leader and has been a very productive player for Maryland since arriving there. He is not the fastest safety in the world, but he is physical and smart and can be the SS next to Eddie Jackson and do the physical lifting in the box. At a minimum Brooks should provide the Bears with a core special teamer who can fill that role if Deon Bush grabs the starting role. The Bears are not going to be able to grab a ready made starter at SS, but between Brooks-Bush-Lucas, they should probably find a player who can fill the role without hurting the defense.

6[202] OLB Trevis Gipson, OLB, Tulsa, 6'3" 261lbs, 34" arms, 25 reps

The Bears need to add an athletic developmental edge rusher to develop and play in the rotation this season. Obviously, Quinn and Mack are an awesome 1-2, but the Bears have little pass rush behind them. Mingo is a coverage guy and special teamer. Irving can play the run and on special teams, but both offer very little in terms of pass rush. Gipson is very raw and coming from a lower level of competition at Tulsa, but he has athletic tools and some idea of what he is doing as a pass rusher. Gipson had 8 sacks last season and 4 the year before, he seems to be figuring it out as a pass rusher. The Bears only need him for a couple of reps a game while he learns and develops behind Masck and Quinn.

7[226] Patrick Taylor, RB, Memphis, 6'1" 217lbs, 4.57 [40], 15 reps, 34" vert, 10'3" broad

The Bears do not really have a backup RB. Cohen showed last season that he should not get that many carries, so if Montgomery gets injured that leaves the Bears rolling out the Ryan Nall show. Taylor has the size, production and explosive ability to be a full time RB in the NFL, but he would fit in nicely for the Bears as a backup to Montgomery and someone who can take on some of the heavy lifting. The Bears can not wear the tread off the rir

2[233] Shaun Bradley, LB, Temple, 6'1" 235lbs, 4.51 [40], 14 reps, 32.5" vert, 10'1 broad

The Bears ILB depth has been wiped out and they need to add a developmental prospect that can challenge Iggy. Bradley is fast ILB prospect that comes from a good defense. Bradley also has some coverage skills as he has 3 INTs in 3 seasons as a starter. Iggy cannot really play defense, we have no idea what Woods can do, and it does not appear that a more experienced backup option is on it's way. The Bears have had success developing ILBs and hopefully they can get Bradley up to speed to contribute in case Trevathan gets injured.

If Pace takes a CB at #43, your #firepace hashtag will be rendered pointless.

I just think that it is going to be a value pick at that point at a premium position.

The strength of the OG class to me is in round 3

Hunt

Lewis

Jackson

Bartch

Muti

Hennessey

Simpson

So you're now hypothesizing that Pace must trade down, and that there will be someone he wants there.

No guarantees Hunt and Lewis last until the third, dude. Or Pace could scoop up either there.

My point is that the teir 2 OLmen are interchangeable. It is a big group and you can trade down, which I think is very likely considering the massive gap between picks, and be looking at a very similar level of player.

If Ruiz, Jackson or Jones are there in the 2nd that is different. They are better than the tier 2 guys. But the difference for me between Hunt and Simpson and Jackson is pretty low.

One of them most likely will be. Or others close enough--Biadasz, for example.

If you have a loaded roster, then you can look at the entire draft as a crapshoot. And that's fine.

Pace doesn't have a loaded roster.

Biadasz isn’t close to those guys. He is closer to going round 4 than 1.

If one of those guys is there I would pick him. In this case none of them were.

I heard good things about Bredeson from this OL coach that was a guest on Locked On Bears. Said he's not an elite athlete, or anything close to it, but he's a dude you can draft in round 3 or 4 and he'll start the next 8 years for you and give you quality OG play.

I think that is where most of the interior OLmen in this class fall.

I am not sure how many of them are worthy of a 2nd round pick, because I am not sure the upside is there. I am on the fence about Cushenberry. I like Hunt but 50 seems rich.

Do you think it's better to go BPA at 43 and then trade down from 50... or trade down from 43 and take your BPA at 50?

Basically I'm asking what player/players would have to be available at #43 for you to be like "nope, I am not trading down because the value in player X is just too high for me to pass"

I think you sit at 43 with a couple of players in mind.

Ruiz, Jackson, Jones, Reagor, Diggs, Jefferson, would be guys who I wouldn’t even take calls at 43.

Baring those guys being gone I would listen to calls. The 3 OLmen would be my main targets.

I'd prefer offensive players (OT, or WR specifically) at 43, but I do like Terrell as a CB, and especially the way your board was breaking, wouldn't have a problem with him there.

I like most of the rest of your draft, if not by players specifically than at least by position. There where a couple I wasn't familiar enough with the player to comment on with confidence, like the Memphis RB, or the mid round OL (since we don't have picks in that range without trading, and nearly the entirety of my trade scenarios to get into that range involve other targets like Claypool (who I'd probably agree goes closer to where you picked him than the third round he's often projected in), and especially Antonio Gibson (the Memphis "RB" I'm most excited about).

Overall I'd be pretty happy/satisified with this draft.
