UKs mock

Recommended Posts

This is based off of a mock I did on PFF. In this scenario the top 3 WRs, Wirfs, and Thomas have all gone before us. Jordan Love is still on the board and the Jaguars come knocking looking to jump the Raiders.

*Trade*

Denver trades 15 + 77

Jacksonville trades 20 + 70 + 2021 1st

#20: Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU: really love his game. Can play outside, can play the slot. Played in a pro style offense and Is more likely to make an immediate immediate impact than even Ruggs (though his ceiling isn’t as high)

There’s a bunch of talent still on the board in the second round including Kyle Dugger who the Ravens covet. They offer 55 +60 for 46+ 83. I have them throw in a 2021 4th and we seal the deal.

#55 Austin Jackson, OT, USC: was set to take Damon Arnette but couldn’t pass up a swing tackle of Jackson’s caliber. Has starting potential in both sides of the line.

#60 Damon Arnette, CB, OSU: thrilled he’s still on board. Love his play. Every time I watched Okudah I came away impressed with Arnette.

#73 Lloyd Cushenberry III, IOL, LSU: was hoping Biadasz would fall but he was taken 10 picks earlier by the chiefs. Still thrilled to get Cushenberry who may end up being the better player of Tyler’s hope never recover. Can play all 3 IOL positions allowing for the versatility that this coaching staff loves. Can start day one at the pivot.

#95 Logan Wilson, ILB, Wyo: Athletic ILB with plus instincts. Still a bit raw coming from the mountain west but should make a plus ST contributed early and slide into Todd Davis’ spot next year.

#118 Antonio Gibson, weapon, Memphis: speedy guy who you manufacture 5-10 touches a game for and will serve as your primary returner.

#178 Carter Coughlin, Edge, Minn: athletic and productive. Still a bit raw and mostly an effort guy. Reminds me of Jared Allen as a prospect. Don’t think he’ll ever be that productive in the pros but I could see him as a plus backup pass rush specialist.

#181 Trey Adams, OT, Wash: First round ablity, PFA injury history. Seems like a good place to swing for the fences.

#252 Charlie Taumoepeau, TE, Portland State: grabbing an Uber athletic, raw TE from Portland state who doesn’t like to block worked once before. Why not try again?

#252 Mason Fine, QB, North Texas: smart productive QB who lacks the desired height. Reminds me of Case Keenum. Should be able to stash him on the PS for a couple years to serve as an emergency backup.

What you think about bringing back DT as a vet wr if the price is right? Sounds like he just wants to finish his career here and Lock as one of the best QBs he's had since Peyton left.

I’m down for that, but it shouldn’t change the fact we still need to address WR early

I don't think we get a JAX 2021 1st for that package.

I can live with Jefferson at 1.20 if he is BPA. I think he is a slot at the next level, or an outside guy that can move the chains. What I dislike is that he doesn't 1) Generate much 'designated' YAC (He can get some yards, but not a guy you can call a play for on a quick slant or bubble and expect explosion) OR 2) Box out / jump ball well. I think whomever we draft as the 2nd WR (And that guy could be a pure outside or an outside / inside guy like Jeudy) needs to have one of those two traits.

Austin Jackson and Arnette are guys that I simply am not high on. I have been wrong, but there are many other developmental OT's and 2nd/3rd tier CB's that I prefer. I think Wilson and Gibson will be long gone at those slots.

LOVE Cushenberry at 73 and IMO he is much better at the next level than Biadasz.

NOTE: I would love to bring DT back. Think he could be a nice vet mentor for the young WR's and likely win out over Hamilton for WR3. Something like 1st/2nd round drafted WR + Explosive manufactured touches R3/R4 guy + DT would be a great improvement over our current corps and help Lock a ton.

I think Jackson high points the ball extremely well. He’s not a speed demon, and is a bit sloppy out of his cuts as a route runner but he has the best hands in the draft. The kid makes amazing look routine.

As for Arnette we’re going to have to disagree on that one. To me the kids had the tools to be a starter for a decade. Put him in a zone or off man scheme and he’ll be a border line pro bowler.

Austin is in that third group of tackle prospects for me, but had the best tools. His hand fighting is ****ty and his feet get lazy but there’s so much for munch to work with and a year until he’s pressed into duty.

if Biadasz can get back to his junior form after his hip surgery then he is a top 5 center in this league, but as paradis showed, hips can derail a centers career. Cushenberry has the versatility to play all three IOL spots and I think will be a long term starter but his ceiling isn’t as high.

Holy cow that JAX trade is bananas. It values their 2021 1st as an early 3rd. And to get Jackson, Arnette, and Cushenberry to all fall to those spots is magic. I’d love this draft so much.

Yeah I was very pleasantly surprised that they were willing to give up a 1 next year. Honestly the whole thing was fairly unrealistic but the PFF AI accepted

They SUPER value the QB position. That trade theoretically works for JAX’s 2nd next year, the 1st is just nuts.

EDIT: Just realized that I math’d wrong, and JAX’s 1st is actually valued as a mid-3rd here. Incredible.

I don't think JAX gives up a 1st for #15.   If they aren't looking for QB, it's just not worth it - especially for a team that looks like it's blowing things up & starting over.

Love the value overall (getting the extra 1st, Gibson at his spot, etc.), but a little worried about Jackson, he's got amazing tools - but Pac-12 struggles are a red flag.   I was so intrigued...until the film flaws against meh competition came out.  Otherwise, no major objections, but don't see this as even 10-15% likely that we get a 1st for that move down.   There's only 1 BOB in this draft lol.

Well, I would absolutely love this draft if it came to fruition, so very well done UK.

Only nitpick I would have, I don't see Jefferson as an outside WR personally. I think he's exclusively a slot guy. I recall reading he played something like 90+% of his snaps last year out of the slot. Taking him, to me, means we need to double dip at WR to find that outside guy (I love Tyler Johnson for this role). But again, that's me nitpicking the role he'll play not the pick itself.

Well done.

Would be ecstatic,  I love Jefferson more than most. For me, he’s a virtual can’t miss WR.  Repeatedly described as a QB’s best friend. Isn’t that exactly what we want for Lock?  I get he doesnt have the speed to take the top off, and what that means for Shurmer’s offense.  But go get a sped guy in Day 3 (Hamler?), or even next year.  But Jefferson is going to rack up catch after catch, first down after first down, 3rd down conversion after 3rd down conversion, for a decade or more.  What a great get for Lock.
