It's draft season Texans fans!  For the 2nd time in 3 years the Texans will be picking on day 2 of the draft.  This is the first draft under "GM/HC" Bill O'Brien. It will be interesting to see which direction he goes with the picks.  I'll make a separate thread with the players like I always do.

Here is a tracker you can follow during the draft to see what players are still available:

List of Texans needs:

EDGE Rusher

NT

CB

OG

RB

WR

If the reports are true about Gibson, safety is gonna be a need.

i hope they aren't.  Gibson is a pretty good safety.  it would be dumb to trade up after we signed him last year to a pretty good deal.  im getting tired of this organization keep adding needs on top of needs.

I'm fine with drafting a safety in the middle rounds, but completely agree that adding a need because we cut Gibson would be dumb. I guess when put it that way, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

Final Mock 3.0

I normally don't predict trades when I do mocks since I'm bad and giving team's value for pick, but I think we might trade back tomorrow night from 40.  These are previous deals that involved the 40th pick.

2014: Seattle traded pick Nos. 40 and 108 for pick Nos. 45, 111 and 227
2009: Oakland traded the 40th pick for pick Nos. 47, 124 and 199
1999: Chicago traded pick Nos. 40 and 102 for pick Nos. 48, 78 and 111

If we stay put:

Round 2, Pick 40:  DT Ross Blacklock:  If he is there at pick 40 this is a no brainer.  He is versatile and he would fill a huge need for us.

Round 3, Pick 90:  EDGE Darrell Taylor:  Fills another huge need for us on defense.  His former OLB coach is now the current OLB coach of the Texans.

Round 4, Pick 111:  RB AJ Dillon:  Texans possibly get their RB of the future.  He is a load to bring down and he can actually run between the tackles unlike the Johnson tandem.

Round 5, Pick 171:  CB Javelin Guidry:  An actual nickel CB.  The fastest CB in this draft.

Round 7, Pick 240:  WR  Tyrie Cleveland:  Underachieved at Florida but he has the size and speed to develop into a solid WR in time.

Round 7, Pick 248: OG/C Darryl Williams: Played both C and guard at Miss St.

Round 7, Pick 250: QB Tyler Huntley:  Developmental QB

I’m sold on Marlon Davidson at 40 if he’s available.

We can grab at edge guy in the 3rd

Him or Ross Blacklock. Everything I've read on both guys is that they're both high character guys with tons of potential. I just hope we don't have to trade up to get one of them. I also like Jordan Elliott if we trade back in round 2. Elliott is more of a risk, but he's slippery and could be worth it if we find ourselves picking in the 50 range.

funny thing, i slotted Davidson at 40 before i settled on Blacklock.  I think Blacklock has a chance to be there at 40.  Davidson would be a slight reach.

those trades would be amazing, but McKinney has a 4th or 5th round value, so its not happening.

Its a rumor going on right now that the Texans trying to trade up in round 1.  I swear this organization better not...

We don't have the draft capital anyway which would make it even more dumb.

If it's 2-40 & a 4th (maybe throw in Keke)... I would be ok with that

it would require more than that.

Not much more according to value chart... depends on if SF sees Coutee as 4th round value... if not, 2-40, 4-111, & 2021 4th could get it done
