But in celebrating Dye’s future while recognizing his collegiate past, it’s also important to not to forget the sacrifice he was willing to make to get there. Dye played the final four games of last season with a partially torn right meniscus, and for three games with a clubbed right hand due to a broken thumb. That knee injury prevented Dye from taking part in any physical drills at the NFL combine or at Oregon’s pro day, but he was able to hold his own private workouts earlier this month and show teams he’s healthy.

“He’s a guy that loves his teammates, that really loves the program and was willing to do whatever it took to go out there and perform to the highest level,” Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said. "Mind you, if there ever is an issue where a guy can really, really hurt himself he wouldn’t be allowed to play. Sometimes there’s things that are there where they can play through it and it’s going to take a really, really tough guy to do so. That’s what Troy is: A phenomenal competitor, phenomenal teammate, a guy that was not going to be denied that championship, was not going to be denied the opportunity to go to win a Rose Bowl and he did it. “I think it’s a great lesson for a lot of guys because when you go on to that next level they look at another ability column on that checklist and that’s durability; guys that are able to fight through the tough times and the rigors and the demands of college football and that’s what he did. Super grateful for him, his attitude, his effort and his toughness and he’s going to play a long, long time. there’s going to be a really lucky and fortunate team to get him in the NFL draft.”
