Eagles trade for WR Marquise Goodwin

Makes total sense for both teams:

-SF had zero need for Goodwin with their WR's in the fold and drafted

-PHI gets a vertical threat to fill in until Reagor, Hightower & Watkins are ready to take over for Goodwin/D-Jax.   Rookies are great long-term, but contenders can't count on them to be impact guys at least for half a season, if not a full one.

-JJAW is in trouble - but it's fair to point out that his role is probably unchanged as the big-body, red-zone possession guy.   Goodwin & D-Jax are the burners.   PHI is hoping the combo can at least provide 1 guy on the field at all times.

-After 2020, Jeffery, Goodwin & D-Jax are goners.   Which is why they drafted 3 WR's - hoping at least 2 of them stick, and JJAW fills in for Jeffery (but also insurance in case JJAW is the next Treadwell).

This is a really great, well though out, and very accurate post. Well done bro. Bravo 👏

A lot of off field issues affected Goodwin with the niners. I’m pretty sure his wife was pregnant with twins and lost them both last season. He’s definitely had some back luck off the field

that's awful

Its funny how the Eagles are getting killed for getting burners at WR when KC won the SB doing that and gets praised when they draft guys like Hardman.

Its also pretty funny when people think having an extra fast guy or two is a waste when burners get dinged all the time.

  • Sammy Watkins missed 20 games in 6 years
  • DJ has missed 36 games in 12 years
  • Will Fuller missed 22 games in 4 years
  • Goodwin has missed 13 games the last 4 years
    • I don't know  about his first 3 years in Buffalo to know if he was hurt or just a roster bubble guy

The 2019 Eagles were negatively defined by 3 things last year

  • Lack of QB depth when they needed it in the playoffs
  • Lack of WR depth for most of the season
  • Agholor dropping some huge passes

Wentz got 1 game all year with a healthy DJ,

  • 28-39 313 3 TDs no picks.
  • DJ had a pair of 50+ yard TDs.

How dare they draft WR speed!  xD

That didn't prevent them beating the Cowboys with amateur bowlers at WR.

We score 17 points. We won that game because Zeke and Amari both played terrible, and because your HC was Jason Garrett.

And the worst part is that is FAR from the only tragedy he's gone through in the last few years.

Rooting for him hard and think he can be very solid in Philly in a limited role. He tends to get banged up which sucks, but play him limited snaps to keep him fresh and he can do some things.

2017 is still wild to me. When Jimmy took over, Goodwin legitimately looked like he can be 1,000 yard WR in this league...Heck, he came close that season but dude made a KILLING running intermediate routes as opposing DBs were afraid of his speed. Excited to see how this turns out as the Eagles also got another one of my favorites in Reagor. Should be fun!

Really strange to see a team that went to the Super Bowl do so much overhauling of the roster. They've made alot of moves, and moved quite a few players that were instrumental to their team getting to the SB. Cap situation was obviously a factor but man, makes you wonder what team chemistry will be like next year for the 49ers. They still have a good team and the foundation is there but, that's alot of moving parts for team that was very successful.

I mean you have to make tough decisions every offseason when you have a stacked roster and are trying to prolong the run as long as you could. But getting rid of guys like Goodwin and Breida mean very little. As stated, by the end of the season they were non-factors. The strength of the Niners for most will be the DL.....But the ridiculous depth is the biggest strength to me and that's why moves like this mean so little. Now, replacing Staley and Buckner sure won't be easy, but the team did the best they could do that by trading for Williams and drafting Kinlaw. Yet to be seen if Aiyuk can replace Sanders but the team made sure it fill all its holes in the draft and via trade.
