RJ_11
WR Darnell Mooney Tulane Height: 5'10" Weight: 176lb 2019 stats: Rec: 48 | Yards: 713 | TD: 5 What the Draft analysts say (via NFL.com): Quote Overview Limber and explosive, he has the makings of a mismatch slot with the ability to stretch and attack speed-deficient coverages. It's easy to criticize Mooney for frequency of drops during his time at Tulane, but he took short throws and turned them into touchdowns of 86, 79 and 55 yards in 2018. He's sudden underneath and should fit right in as a slot, but he won't be able to outrun NFL coverage and needs to tighten up the routes. He definitely has a puncher's shot at finding an NFL home, but the slender frame and inability to help on special teams are big challenges to overcome. Strengths Capable of lining up inside or outside Uses sudden stem and release to beat press Instant cushion muncher against off-man Will turn a short slant into a long touchdown Suddenness to separate out of breaks underneath Explosive speed with ability to work all three levels Above average locating and tracking deep throws Instinctive positioning and body adjustments help him bring it in Trampoline leaper to get up and over for high-point Almost every touchdown in 2019 was contested Weaknesses Built like a stick with thin frame and limbs Size brings natural concerns over durability Not enough attention to detail in his routes In a hurry to get from Point A to Point B Had troubling dealing with physical route-matchers Disappointing drops on shorter throws Struggled making adjustments to throws outside his frame Has almost no special teams experience in college Edited April 25, 2020 by RJ_11
JAF-N72EX
Hey, at least it's offense this time. I also like the idea of moving up again.

JAF-N72EX
The last time we took a player from Tulane was my boy Matt Forte.
beardown3231
Jeremiah just compared him to Travis Benjamin. If he has that career I'd take it
Damikeeeee
He's so tiny. His bobblehead will be accurate.
WindyCity
This offense is incredibly slow. This adds some juice, even if he only plays in sub packages, the threat is real.
dll2000
So Pace basically just admitted this was a coaches pick. WR coach literally pounded table for him. Nagy really pushed for him too. That was interesting to me. And that Pace was willing to listen to them.

For me the GM and coaches always need to be listening and willing to work through picks together...if the coaches can see a role for him then this pick makes all the more sense.

I think it is obvious to everyone team lacks explosive speed offensively. They have Patterson who doesn’t get a ton of reps and doesn’t seem to be a great deep ball player anyway. dll2000
They still brought in like 2 or 3 of these little speed guys last year and none are still on team. You still have to be good.
dll2000
Coaches strong push for this pick makes me think they really wanted Hamler. That would have been nice had that worked out.

We have to remember they get in late, but coaches watch college tape too. And like us, actually a lot more than us, they really get their heart set on certain guys and probably get really upset when GM doesn’t agree or in their mind go after a favored player hard enough. ba_ba_ba_BOOM
Hope we can get this guy on the field early this year. If we can get 2 full time contributors (Kmet, JJ) and 2 rotational contributors (Gipson, Mooney) - this will have been a great draft.
