I think Hill and Hughes are your starting corners; with Hughes pushed inside for nickel and Gladney coming in as a boundary. Yea I agree I think Hill gets one of the two boundary CB positions, and then Hughes or Gladney for the other boundary CB spot... My preference would be Hughes gets the 2nd boundary spot, and Gladney is the slot CB.

I think Hill and Hughes are your starting corners; with Hughes pushed inside for nickel and Gladney coming in as a boundary. I've never been that impressed with Hill. He played zone almost exclusively at Texas. And with the Vikings he's also mostly played zone, frequently matched up on lesser WRs. On the few occasions where he's had to roll up and cover a good receiver man-to-man, it hasn't gone great. Here's the all-22 of his game against the Bears in week 17: He doesn't have to do much (many plays there is no receiver challenging his zone) and he still gives up a couple of wide open receivers over the middle: a deep completion to Allan Robinson and what would've been a TD on the play before that if Trubisky hadn't bailed on a clean pocket. I remember the famous Zimmer line about being able to find a cover-2 corner at 7-Eleven. I think that's what they see Hill as -- a zone corner but not good enough to build a coverage scheme around. Dantzler's tape is much more impressive than Hill's from his draft year. I doubt they'll work more than one rookie into the top 3 corners immediately, but as the year goes on, I think Hill will slide down to 4th on the depth chart. Think Gladney talent translates to slot more. Also gives more potential backup CB boundary snaps to Danz, whose skills basically only translate to boundary... Who if progression goes well could get a starting boundary spot next year Edited May 20, 2020 by CriminalMind

Aside from the need to have Kearse and Sendejo play nickel last year, Zimmer has basically never used the backup safeties except late in blowouts or as injury replacements. I think Metellus is the 3rd safety and would be first up if either Smith or Harris went down. S4 is only going to play if 2 of the top 3 get hurt at the same time. Their other options for S4 are street free agents (like Parker) who could be added back to the roster anytime mid-season, in case of injury, or low ceiling rookies (like Dorn) who would easily make it to the practice squad. Really no need to roster those guys. Chisena has a path to the roster even as a rookie as a special teams gunner. Arif tweeted that he had 3 special teams tackles in the short scrimmage at USBank last week, which is impressive. I think they probably asked him to switch positions this week because they’re looking for a way to keep him on the 53. If he was just a developmental long shot, practice squad lock this year, they might as well leave him at WR and see if he can learn some route running techniques as the year goes on. Switching positions now to the one spot where they clearly have a hole on the roster seems like an attempt to keep him on the team.
SteelKing728
Ugh we are so thin at LG, RG and NT. I don't like having completely experienced backup safeties as well. We lost a lot of depth on this team.

vikesfan89
Wasn't there talk about moving Hand to safety when he was drafted? I'm surprised they haven't tried that with how far down he seems to be on the cb depth chart

I'm surprised they haven't tried that with how far down he seems to be on the cb depth chart I don't think the team ever mentioned it. A few of us were speculating it might happen. I haven't heard anything good or bad about him in camp, not even sure he's playing with the 2nd team. I think he probably ends up on the practice squad, and they keep either Fields or Clarke as a 6th CB, if they keep 6.
