jch1911
Either we get the Reid bros or this was poor planning (draft + free agency).. or Bo'OB trying to justify Murray?
Pastor Dillon
The Reid brothers are to similar to fit together. I think we might move Lonnie Johnson to safety. Slide John Reid to that 4th CB slot.

Justin Reid is more of a single-high safety where as Eric is a box safety. It'd be awesome having them play together, but I don't know if BOB will go for it.

Marco79
I feel like Gipson played well last year. He did a really good job against opposing TEs. After not drafting a S, I really hope BoB has his eye on a FA out there and is not thinking Eric Murray fills the void.

I think Reid is the exact opposite of a single high safety
Texans02
Doesn't it feel like we should have been able to get something back for our starting safety, even if it was a lower draft pick or some other player we wanted that was in roster limbo? Sometimes it feels like BOB is allergic to value. OTOH, if we did end up signing Eric Reid, we could have the most confusing secondary ever with 3 Reids running around.

I think he was due $7.5mm, so that's a rough ask - paying that much for a guy who gets hurt often and only has one real role as a TE stopper. Maybe there's a team out there, but I'd imagine the effort to find that team and create a trade isn't worth the time. Not trying to advocate for BoB, he's dumb. If it was any GM, I'd probably look at it the same way. Don't discount Gipson coming back, either. This could have been a move to get him on a more team friendly deal (ok, this is more a tactic of a good GM, BoB ain't thinking like that).
