Washington's Front Four

With the addition of Chase Young, all four starters on their defensive line were drafted in the first round. Has this ever been accomplished? How do you think they will finish 2020?

Considering they finished with just one less sack than the Super Bowl runner-ups despite rarely having leads, this defensive line while being coached by Rivera could be a an absolute nightmare for quarterbacks.

Don’t the 49ers have Armstead, Thomas, Bosa and Ford? And they had Buckner too?

You can add Kinlaw to the list, but yes you're right...

If you want to get technical, DJ Jones is a starter on the team's front as a 6th round pick. He played and started 11 games last year before his injury as the 1-tech. Dee Ford doesn't really start.  Dee Ford only started 2 games last year and Solomon Thomas started 3 (mostly when DJ was out). That being said, that's technical, and we don't know how the actual starting front 4 will go for Washington.

But in the spirit of what he is asking, the 49ers are set up similarly, though I don't want to undercut DJ's importance as he does typically play 40-50% of the teams defensive snaps which is greater than both Thomas and Ford and starts.

Pats had several years of a first round drafted front three, with Seymour, Wilfork, and Warren. If you want it to be 4 players, McGinnest played a rush OLB role at the same time.

EDIT: 2012 Chiefs had Dorsey, Poe, and Jackson, along with Hali as a purely rush OLB (throw in DJ as another first rounder on that front 7.)

I'll up the ante: has a team ever filled their defensive line with their own first round picks?

Yes, but none with 4 straight.

It'll be interesting to see who Del-Rio starts at 3-tech: Jonathan Allen or Matt Ioannidis (5th round pick).  Matty I. was our best defensive lineman last year, and even though he saw the highest amount of double-teams on our DL, he was still a beast.

But "starting" doesn't really matter.  It'll be a rotation, and they'll likely all play around the same amount of snaps.

In 2011 and 2012, Steelers  had 3 first rounders on our DLine (Cameron Heyward, Casey Hampton, Ziggy Hood)    Unfortunately, Hampton was starting to decline at that point and Ziggy was never more than average.

DJ Jones dominated the Packers in their first matchup last year. He is not a player to forget about, that's for sure.
