Assuming we go the Urban Meyer/Jeff Ireland route:

Re-Sign

  • Sidney Jones CB
  • Keelan Cole WR
  • Tre Herndon CB
  • Dawuane Smoot DE

Free Agency

  • Trey Hendrickson DE - I'll continue to bet this drum, he should be our number one priority in FA. Hoping Jeff Ireland at GM would help in recruiting him here.
  • Marcus Williams FS - We again take advantage of the Saint's cap issues by poaching one of the top FS in the game. (Malik Hooker would be the cheaper alternative)
  • Trent Brown OT - Raiders fans seem to think he will be a cap casualty. Would move him back to LT, where he played in New England.
  • Curtis Samuel WR/RB - Another one of Urban's guys. Has the speed we have been lacking (4.31) and can play WR or RB, which is an Urban staple.
  • Dwayne Haskins QB - Cheap reclamation project for Urban
  • Mike Pouncey OL - I'd expect you might see a few older vets come try and play for Urban again. Would push Cann at RG.
  • Jonathan Hankins DT - Another former Urban player to be a stop-gap

Draft

1a - Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson - No explanation needed.

*Trade* 1.21, 3.1, and 7.1 to Minnesota for 1.14

1b - Kyle Pitts TE Florida - We use some of our extra draft capital to get an elite talent. Pitts would give us a TE threat that this franchise has never had.

2a - Jay Tufele DT USC - Addresses our massive DT need. Was very heavily recruited by Urban Meyer at Ohio State.

2b - Shaun Wade CB Ohio State - Falls due to hi struggles on the outside. We move him back to Nickle and possibly some safety

4a - Justyn Ross WR Clemson - His stock will come down to his medical, could be a huge steal. I'd stash him and play him when he is ready.

4b - Alaric Jackson OT Iowa - Beefs up the depth for OT

5a - Divine Deablo SAF Virginia Tech - Poor man's Kam Chancellor. Was recruited to Ohio State albeit as a WR.

5b - Master Teague RB Ohio State - Familiar with Urban and depth for Robinson

7 - Tyreke Smith DE Ohio State - Edge depth.

QB - Lawrence, Minshew, Haskins

RB - Robinson, (Samuel), Ogunbowale, Teague

WR - Chark, Johnson

WR - Shenault, Ross (PUP)

WR - Samuel, Cole

TE - Pitts, Eifert, Oliver

LT - T.Brown, A.Jackson

LG - Norwell, Bartch

C - Norwell, Shatley

RG - Pouncey/Cann

RT - Taylor, Richardson

DE - J.Allen, K.Chaisson, T.Smith

DT - Hankins, Tufele

DT - Hamilton, Costin

DE - Hendrickson, Smoot

WLB - Jack, Q.Williams

MLB - Schobert, Quarterman

SLB - Giles-Harris, Jacobs

CB - Henderson, Barcqoo/Claybrooks

FS - Williams/Hooker, Wingard

SS - Wilson, Thomas, Deablo

CB - Jones, Herndon

NB - S.Wade, Scott

K - Lambo

P - Cooke

LS - Matiscik

Interesting trade up for Pitts. Not sure spending 3 picks on WR is a good idea either. Would prefer we'd spread the wealth to other positions, wouldnt consider WR to be that big of a need either and yea those aren't premium picks to use but we could use depth elsewhere too

I agree with you on that.  I may not even go as high as the 4th round for a running back.  We can find a guy in free agency who probably wouldn't cost all that much spell Robinson occasionally.

@Chops013 if you dont think Wade will be an outside CB then isnt it not ideal to spend a 2nd round pick on a nickel DB?

Since defenses spend the majority of their time in Nickel, I think it would still be wise to invest in a quality NB. Having a CB group of Henderson, Jones, Wade, and Herndon would be nice. I also think Wade could be a really good safety.

That mock above was also more of me trying to predict what Urban might do.

I view him as a nickel/safety.
