TheGame316
Keyword "During Coronavirus Pandemic" - Meaning, depending on how his salary is actually paid, he may be giving up a small amount of salary, not necessarily the entire 40 Million. For all we know he gets paid heavily based on performance or signing bonuses. So, the actual "salary" is a very small part of his yearly compensation Big Headline, that is light on details Why not Donate the 40 Million to an NFL employee fund, vs just forgoing it from the Massive Billion $$ NFL? It's his money he's worked very hard for. He can do whatever the hell he wants with it. What he's donating isn't required by anyone and we should be happy with any amount of donations he decides to make.

And it doesn’t matter because the NFL is a private entity. They could do whatever they helol they want. Goodell has been solid for the NFL. Too many babies give that man a hard time. Yea but those babies still write a sh** ton of hate mail and the NFL doesn't like controversy. Give the media a line like "Goodell earns 40 million, millions still suffer" and it will be a headline that stays for months.
bomont
He sucks as a commish, but credit where due. I also get disgusted by charity shaming...and have to wonder about the people who do it, i.e. how much are they donating to charities, if they were making $40M a year would they voluntarily give up a whole year's salary etc. Armchair quarterbacks. puke.

He's not donating it to charity, He just isn't cashing the check that comes from NFL Headquarters See, the faux headline is already working on guys like you

Webmaster
Let’s drop the veiled insults and general discussion about charitable donations. Also, we don’t need your thoughts on “millionaires”, Coronavirus, or anything off-topic. Keep the comments focused on Goodell and the NFL or this will get locked.

Maybe he should have "taken the check" and gave it all to some charity instead. Either way it's still not in his pocket and quite a gesture. That's what "guys like me" think anyway (whatever that means).

Could you imagine the headlines with so many people out of work that Gooddell receives that much money? but now everyone knows how he has been ripping the nfl off so badly for years

MrOaktown_56
Honestly this is fantastic. I don't care how much money you have. 40 million is literally 40 million.

I think this may mean that if Goodell gives up his pay then they’re expecting players to folllow suit. They prolly won’t ask players to give up their entire pay but definitely a pay cut That way there would be no bad PR if the nfl asked players to take a cut and Goodell was still earning his 40 million I was wondering if players might have to take pay cuts for the season... Not just in the NFL but in all sports. If you're playing games without fans that means no revenue from ticket sales, merchandising, concessions, etc... I have no idea what percentage of the leagues revenue that all adds up to but I would think it would be enough to have a significant impact. Toddfather
Good decision, but if they did decide to donate it that would be pretty awesome.
naptownskinsfan
Any word on what is going to happen with the $40 million? I would assume it could be split equally amongst the 32 teams to help offset staffing/labor hours for game day employees in the case of limited/no fans, or I could see the NFL donating it to various charities.
