It was meant to correct some of the contract problems, draft and stash problems and draft class generation issues they were encountering.  It came out yesterday evening/last night.  I haven't gotten to play around with it yet, or read much user testing, to see if they're getting their intended results yet.

I think the patches fix existing leagues too.

I am particularly interested in updates 1 vs 3

Top 10 Prospects According to Draft Express - Year 2
DE Rank Position Name Age Height Weight Wingspan OVR Potential
1 PF Daniel Haston 22 6'10" 251 7'3" 88 A+
2 PG Richard Jefferson 22 6'2" 154 6'6" 75 A+
3 PG Mark Carpenter 20 6'0" 178 6'5" 78 B+
4 SF/SG Stuart Hutchinson 19 6'9" 237 7'4" 81 B+
5 PG Jalen Ferrell 20 6'1" 163 6'4" 76 A
6 C Oscar Robinson 21 7'0" 295 7'7" 77 B+
7 SF/PF Jamaal Elliot 23 6'7" 247 7'1" 77 B
8 PG/SG Lester Slaughter 21 6'2" 194 6'4" 71 A+
9 SG Henry Redd 20 6'3" 181 6'2" 74 B-
10 PG Randolph Gill 22 5'8" 133 6'2" 75 B-

Pretty solid looking class.  Haston is a Superstar with great size, and Jefferson, Carpenter, and Slaughter all have A+ potential.  Oscar Robinson not only has an interesting name but is a huge Center.  Haston, Carpenter, Ferrell, Elliot, Slaughter, and Redd all have 90+ Speed.  This is a great first class for me.  Remember I won't be taking anyone in the Top 5, but this is a pretty deep looking draft which is good for me.

I’m currently tied for the worst record in the league.  My team is just awful, which really sucks cause I don’t have my first round pick this year.  The Cavs pick I got looks like it’ll be the 30th pick in the draft, and the Hawks pick could possibly not even end up in the lottery.  I’m going to see if I can make a deadline deal to pick up a higher  first rounder.

*TRADE*

Boston Celtics Receive

C Marc Gasol (89)

SG Ben McLemore (77)

Memphis Grizzlies Receive

2019 Grizzlies First Round Pick

C Al Horford (84)

This trade gets me my first round pick back from the Celtics, and moves Gasol out of town who had grown unhappy here.  Boston had to include Horford to make the salaries work.  He has 1 year left on his deal but does have a 1 year player option.  If he opts out it’ll save me a ton of cap space.

*Free Agent Signing*

Signed PG Briante Weber to a 3-year, $4.65 mil deal.  After the trade I had to sign someone as I was below the minimum roster requirement.  Weber is an excellent defender and VCU graduate.

Biggest surprises are probably the Suns, Thunder and Spurs in the West.  The Suns haven't really added anyone, they just grew up.  Booker (88), Bledsoe (87), Jackson (84), and Chriss (81) have all progressed well.  The Thunder lost both Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in free agency.  The Spurs added JJ Redick and are just getting older.  Honestly the game probably has the Spurs underrated.

In the East the Magic, Bulls and Pacers are the big surprises.  The Magic added Nicolas Batum and Jonathan Isaac (82) has progressed well.  The Bulls signed Kevin Durant, Khris Middleton, and Greg Monroe in the offseason.  I traded the Pacers Mike Conley and they drafted SF Odell Shepard (83), to pair with Myles Turner (87).

Draft Lottery

nba-draft-lottery3.jpg

I have two lottery chances this year, the #1 and #13 (Hawks) odds.  Winning the lottery doesn’t mean anything though, as I’ll be trading down to the #6 overall pick regardless.  The top 5 odds are:

1.       Grizzlies (25.0%)

2.       Heat (19.9%)

3.       Spurs (15.6%)

4.       Nets (11.9%)

5.       Thunder (8.8%)

Who’s it going to be…..

The Thunder jumped into the top 3 and won the lottery.  I landed the #2 overall pick, and the Heat fell to #3.  My other pick from the Hawks held at #13.  My pick from the Cavaliers is #29 overall.

2019 NBA Draft

NBA_Draft_logo_(no_year).png

Draft Picks

Round 1 – 6 overall

Round 1 – 13 overall

Round 1 – 29 overall

Round 2 – 33 overall

Round 2 – 35 overall

I have 3 first round picks, and my two 2nd rounders are pretty high picks as well.  Should come out of this draft with 5 solid prospects.  I need everything, so I’ll be going BPA the whole way.  I would really love if SF Stuart Hutchinson fell to me at 6, or one of the athletic guards.  My fallback plan will be Center Oscar Robinson, but honestly Centers are so undervalued in this game idk if taking one at 6 would be smart.

With the #1 overall pick the Thunder select PF Daniel Haston, the best player in this draft.  He’s a complete freak, long and athletic and one of the best shooters in the draft.  He’s like Chris Bosh in his prime.  The 76ers select PG Richard Jefferson #2 overall, he’s very athletic and has one of the highest potential ratings in this draft.  Not sure how he fits with Fultz and Simmons, though.  Pretty crazy they’re getting a player his caliber after winning the NBA Championship though.  The Heat select SF Stuart Hutchinson at 3, which sucks because I really wanted him.  At 4 the Spurs select PG Jalen Ferrell, another super athletic Guard.  Center Oscar Robinson is selected #5 by the Nets, which is good that way I won’t be tempted to select him.  I’m on the clock.

Here are the top players available at 6:

PG Mark Carpenter

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
3 PG Mark Carpenter 6'0" 175 6'5" Oregon 78 B+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B+ B A- D B+ B C C A+

Carpenter is the player with the highest OVR rating available.  He’s very quick and a good passer and scorer.  He isn’t very tall, but I don’t really care about that in PGs.  His Potential rating isn’t amazing for a top pick but it isn’t terrible either.  He has the Acrobat and Difficult Shots badges.

SF Jamaal Elliot

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
7 SF Jamaal Elliot 6'7" 247 7'1" Kansas St 77 B

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B C- C- D+ B- C C C+ A-

Elliot is only 6’7” but he does have a 7’1” wingspan, and his 247 lbs give him a pretty thick build.  He could probably play some small ball 4 in a pinch, although he would need to work on his interior defense.  He’s a pretty good perimeter defender and he’s pretty athletic for his size.  He has the Acrobat, Difficult Shots and Posterizer badges.

PG Lester Slaughter

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
8 PG Lester Slaughter 6'2" 194 6'4" Miss St 71 A+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
D+ C- B- D- C A- D- C+ B

Slaughter has the highest available OVR rating left in the draft, and should progress quite a bit. He’s the most raw prospect left at the top of the draft though, and will need a lot of work to catch up to Carpenter or Elliot.  He is faster than both of them though, although its pretty close.  He has the Chase Down Artist, Dimer and Lob City Passer badges.

I’m not going to entertain trading down from this pick since I need players.  Slaughter’s Potential rating is intriguing and I certainly shouldn’t overlook it, but Carpenter is such a better player than him (and you can increase potential ratings in offseason training).  I think the decision is down to Carpenter and Elliot for me, and I just feel like Carpenter is the better overall prospect.

With the 6th pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

PG Mark Carpenter, Oregon

fvvskb0.jpg

Carpenter is the first pick of my new regime and I’m hoping he becomes the face of the franchise.

Time to sim to my next pick.  Slaughter went with the next pick to the Nets, and Elliot fell all the way to 10 to the Celtics.

These are the top players available at 13:

SF Carson Harrison

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
12 SF Carson Harrison 6'8" 233 6'10" Arizona 72 B+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
C C+ D- C- B- C C- C+ B

Harrison has decent size, is a decent athlete and is a pretty good defender.  He can’t shoot at all though.  He would be a defensive specialist.  He doesn’t have any badges.

PF Ethan Washington

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
13 PF Ethan Washington 6'10" 250 7'2" Butler 69 A-

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B D+ F C C- C- B- C- C-

Washington has great size for his position and has the highest Potential rating left in the draft.  He’s an old school banging PF though, and can’t shoot.  He also needs to work on his interior defense and rebounding.  His Speed and athleticism is more like a modern Center than a PF.  He has the Up & Under Specialist badge, which really solidifies him as an interior scoring specialist.

SG Marvin Tucker

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
18 SG Marvin Tucker 6'7" 228 7'1" Wash St 68 B

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
C- B B- F D- C D+ D+ C

Tucker is the best shooter available at this spot.  He also has great size for a 2 guard, and can probably play some SF if needed.  He is not a good defender at all though.  He has pretty decent Speed for a guy his size.  He has the lowest Potential rating of these 3 prospects I’m considering.   He doesn’t have any badges.  I feel like if I want to take Tucker I should consider trading down first.

This is a lot harder decision than the pick at 6.  All of these guys have strength and some glaring weaknesses.  I really like Tucker’s size for a Guard, and he can shoot (although he’s not an elite shooting prospect).  Washington also has great size but his skillset is basically like a Dinosaur in the modern NBA.  Harrison is the best overall well rounded prospect, but isn’t particularly great at anything.

With the 13th pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

SF Carson Harrison, Arizona

iVH3PTp.jpg

I’ll try to develop Harrison’s shooting and turn him into a 3&D role player.

Time to sim to my next pick.  PF Ethan Washington gets selected 15th to the Celtics.  Tucker gets selected 18th to the Magic.

These are the top players available at 29:

PG Alan Clark

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
21 PG Alan Clark 5'10" 177 6'3" Texas 69 C+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
C+ D D F C B+ D- C+ C+

Clark is really raw but he’s fast and a decent passer.  He’ll need to develop a lot before he see’s any time on the court.  He has the Flashy Passer and Pick & Roll Maestro badges.

SG Wally Hayes

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
33 SG Wally Hayes 6'7" 223 6'9" Kentucky ??? B

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
D B C- D- D C- D+ C- C

I don’t have Hayes fully scouted so this would be a roll of the dice.  I know he has good size for a 2 guard, is a decent shooter, and has decent potential rating.

There aren’t a lot of good options here at 29.  I don’t want to trade out as I’m only receiving future 2nd round picks as trade offers.  I’m not really thrilled with Clark so I think I’m going to take a chance on Hayes.

With the 29th pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

SF Wally Hayes, Kentucky

THuIJCn.jpg

Another good sized wing from a strong college program.  I hope Hayes develops into a solid role player.

I have two second round picks to make as well.  I’m not going to have the same level of detail for those prospects, but I’ll summarize the players I select with the picks.

Well with my first 2nd round pick Alan Clark is still available, so I might as well select him.

With the 33rd pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

PG Alan Clark, Texas

h501kGW.jpg

Really raw, but hopefully the future backup PG.

I’d really like to take a big here with my last pick.

With the 35th pick in the NBA draft the Memphis Grizzlies select:

C Edgar Henderson, Northwestern

jcup9S2.jpg

He’s 7’2”, 277 lbs with a 7’8” wingspan.  They don’t get much bigger than that.

That wraps my first draft with the Grizzlies.

*Update*

PG Mark Carpenter’s potential rating is actually A+!

SF Carson Harrison is actually a 74 OVR, not 72 OVR.

SG Wally Hayes is only a 66 OVR but has B+ potential.

Player/Team Options

C Al Horford (85) - $30.12 mil – Horford executed his 1-year player option, for $30 mil can you blame him?

PG Wade Baldwin (78) - declined – I have way too many PGs on the roster.

SF Furkan Korkmaz (78) - $2.03 mil – He’ll probably start for me this year.

SF Rade Zagorac (75) - declined – I need to open up playing time for my rookie SF.

PF Ivan Rabb (74) - $1.62 mil – decent prospect I’ll keep around for at least another year.

Qualifying Offers

PF Deyonta Davis (78) - $2.13 mil offer – He’ll start at PF for me if he signs.

PF Jarell Martin (77) – no offer – I’d like to give Rabb some playing time at PF.  If Davis doesn’t come back I might make Martin an offer.

PG Andrew Harrison (79) – no offer – I have too many PGs on the roster.
