Rivera said he didn’t consider Tua at #2

Rivera said he didn’t have Tua ranked in the top 4 prospects. He had him ranked at 5, where he was selected.

Which other players do you think besides Chase Young that Rivera had ranked in his top 4 - ahead of Tua - and considered at #2?

I say Burrow, Okudah and Simmons.

What do you all think?

I don’t really think Thomas or Becton we’re better prospects then someone like Simmons. I think they went that high bc of position importance.

Cam Newton Signing with Redskins 'Depends on Circumstances,' Ron Rivera Says

Oh wow, if he and Cam have discussed it, and given our cap space I wouldn’t be shocked if we signed him, especially if we don’t have training camp & a preseason like usual where Haskins can learn the offense and get acclimated in it with his teammates. It’s not what I would want, I want Haskins to get the reigns and be the QB of the present and future but if Cam’s shoulder and foot check out, I would not rule it out. It’s disappointing, but it is what it is, we can’t control it.

Quote

Rivera discussed potentially adding Newton to the team's quarterback room alongside Dwayne Haskins and Kyle Allen on the NFL Network on Thursday:

"You know, the thing about Cam really is the situation. We're in a situation where we've got two really young quarterbacks, one that's been with us, been in the system, understands how we want things done and the other one is a guy who was taken last year in the first round and shows some promise.

"I think with Cam, and I have thought about it, I mean, it's something that's run through my mind, and it's about the situation and circumstances. I'm not sure I would do it. I'm not sure if I wouldn't do it. It depends on circumstances."

I read it yesterday in the Post. I did read the article with an other tone. Circumstances are broadly stated: for example when 2 of our QB’s go down, if Haskins sucks and we can get Cam in for a health check. If all happens it’s good to have a healthy veteran who knows the system.

Young

Simmons

Okudah

Burrow

I REALLY think this is what their board may have looked like.

If that was their board, mad respect, bc I agree with that mostly, I would have had Burrow above Okudah but still, I think Young & the Simmons were the two top prospects in this draft. I'm glad Simmons went to AZ and nIt the Giants where he would have been terrorizing our blocking schemes, TEs & Haskins for the next decade.

Thank you for this, Bleacher Report and a lot of blogs like that have a way of cutting up quotes and taking things out of context that people say in order to get more attention on social media and to their website when there really isn't a story there. They try to create a story & controversy when there isn't one.

I think Simmons was high up for him really. If you think about it it makes some measurable sense. Thomas Davis I believe when he came out was seen as an LB/S hybrids in some peoples eyes. That kind of versatility could be reminiscent.

Yeah, I’ve said this before and I hate to compare anyone to Sean Taylor bc I don't take that comparison lightly but, Simmons is the closest thing I've seen to ST on the football field since Sean was last with us 13 year ago.

The ability to play the run & pass as a WLB, rush as an OLB, cover TEs, RBs & slot WRs and play deep safety is a gift that literally only a few football players have ever had in the history of the NFL - Ronnie Lott & Sean Taylor - maybe there were ones before them, like Ken Houston but I never saw Ken Houston play, so I don't know.

I think Derrick Brown was one over Simmons. Having his position secured could have played role in not wanting to fall back any.

Okuda had to be up there because he will be Champ Bailey. But theres zero separation in Simmons and the other LBs taken in the first outside a hair faster 40.

Simmons offers versatility as a better coverage player and a better pass rusher then say - Murray or Queen. That's why Simmons was a top 10 pick, and Simmons’ speed and range are so good that he could play single high FS as well, that obviously also makes him a better prospect then Murray or Queen, especially in today's game where most team's pass the ball 60% of the game and many TEs play like WRs and some RBs do to. It's Simmons coverage ability and versatility to cover those types of players which make a better prospect.
