Makes it sound like drafting a RB that high is a bad idea or something even if they work out

I mean, you can get some value even out of 1st round rookie deals for a good RB.  But if you don't have a lot of other pieces already in place, you're kinda flushing draft capital down the toilet...because anticipating a second contract on any RB in this day and age, is both risky and probably bad investment.

Just have to really "hit" on them as more than just "decent", and go in expecting that you're probably only going to get 4 years out of them these days in the first place, before they start asking for the uncomfortable money.

It's not like any of our other "1st round picks" have been still around, or "worth it" for the 5th year option either.

Yes bit had we kept him its an easy exercise.   While allen has only played 1 season his play thus far shows hes worth the 5th year.

It wasn't up to the team to keep him.  He forced his way out, same as others.

We don't get enough out of draft picks as it is, to even really care that much about "5th year options" and future contracts at this point.
