2021 NFL Draft Thread

I ran a few mocks on thedraftnetwork.

In one I took the WR, Tooney with the first pick.  Taking a WR in the first really screws up the rest of the draft.

In my last attempt, I got OT Mayfield in the first.  CB Melifonwu in the second.  DL McNeill in the third.  RB Sermon in the fourth.  WR Seth Williams in the 4'th.

In all of my attempts, Samuel Jr was there with the first pick.  He was about 6 picks away from our second round pick.

After doing these, I came to this conclusion.  The way their site is setup, it's really tough to get a good corner and tackle if you do not take them in the first two rounds.

WR's and RB's are good value in the 4'th round and later, no need to reach.  DL is slim picking, too.

Just my opinion after messing with that site extensively last year, but I wouldn't put too much stock in TDN.  Anything having to do with them, ESPECIALLY their prospect evals, needs to be taken with a Mount Everest sized grain of salt.

First positive thing I've ever heard about TDN's projections.

I did a few mocks on PFF yesterday.  Their system is pretty nice, too.  And you can trade.

Kind of saw the same thing, though.  Unless you go OT and CB in the first two rounds, it is kind of tough to find ones later.

Whereas WR and RB appear to be pretty deep in the mid rounds.

Kind of noticed on both that ILB pickings get pretty slim after round 3 and 4.

One name that I'm seeing....Van Lanen from UW.  Tackle.  Late round kid.  Anyone see him play much?  Wondering if he has a little Tauscher in him.

Unfortunately, that's the reality that all 32 teams face.  You don't get to take a "luxury" in the first round, and then expect to see a player of need with strong value there at the end of the second round.  CBs and OTs are at a premium.

I've seen the mock sites listing guys who play slot corner in the mid rounds.  Write ups are pretty decent for many of them.

How is your board set up?  Does it look like there could be a good chance to "double dip" the CB position with a mid round slot guy?

Since I think Jackson is a possible cut candidate, and Sullivan is what he is, maybe a double dip is in order.

I still think we need another impact IDL on this team unless we somehow sign Watt. We still need youth there though. Any late round guys you all like at DT? I like Slaton from Florida if he’s there in round 5. Big guy who can move and stuff the run. Might be able to develop some push up the middle. Doesn’t look 360#, built well for that size.

Love to get an impact DT at 29 if we feel there will be one there

Not sure we need a starting RT but if a good one slides I’d be cool with that.

Also think we need both a slot SS/CB and another CB or 2 CB’s in the first 4 rounds since I’m not sure King comes back.

I think Keke is going to be that player that you want on the IDL.  He quietly had a very good second season.

But yah, I'd still draft one somewhere for depth.

Agree there. Think we need 1-2 more on the DL. Keke is our second best and the rest are trash IMO.

I'd call Lancaster and Lowry "serviceable".  Not really trash.  But not needle movers either.

I don't see any mid to late round IDL kids contributing to the team like Lowry and Lancaster can.  Obviously we should find one and see what we have, but I'm tempering my enthusiasm.  3rd round seems like a good round to start looking there, along with WR/RB.  Assuming first two are OT/CB.

Your view of those two is way better than mine. Lancaster just eats blocks but unless they run into him he has no other purpose. Lowry can certainly get to the QB when unblocked but other than that he is useless. Not stout at all and no real pass rush other than previously mentioned.

I feel like depending on the board I could go DL then CB followed by a developmental OT too.
