I think LaFleur has done a good job, but I don't think there are a whole lot of offensive coordinators averaging 16 pts per game in their first year who are getting head coaching looks.

But Vrabel was a first year DC who had a bottom of the league defense and got the job, so maybe.

I just think of Mike McCoy getting that HC job mainly because of him turning Tebow into a playoff winning QB.  That offense was horrific but Tebow was able to do just enough to win with that defense.

Just had a bad thought.........

LaFleur to Houston if O'Brien is fired.

I think he would be a risky hire at this point for head coach.

Pros: I like what he's done with the limited offense; seems to be a good playcaller overall; still feel that we haven't seen the full offense

Cons: Really only worth hiring if you are going to have him call plays which personally I'm not a huge fan of having the HC do; he is a guy who spends his time in the skybox and would be new to managing sideline; doesn't have the 'leader of men' vibe that Vrabel had imo

Overall, I'd be surprised if he was hired away this offseason, but hiring the young offensive coaches is the 'it' thing to do at the moment.

Yeah. I think that would happen. A promotion from within. Especially if we do well.
or
Hire someone fro the same tree to run the same offense? Who did the Rams hire for their OC this year? lol

Lol well either way, Robinson has earned my full trust and Vrabel is trending in that direction (it is still only week 3 so I still want to see more from him), but I think they’d bring in or promote the right guy.

LaFleur has a brother who coaches the WRs and is the passing game specialist in San Fran under Kyle Shanahan. Worked under Shanahan with the Falcons coaching the WRs there too. Our offense resembles the Shanahan style more than it does the McVay style, so he's a potential non-promotion hire at OC if Matt leaves this year.

Interesting, didn’t know that, but sounds like someone who would maybe be more likely to end up with his brother.

Possibly. But I consider the idea that our OC is attractive to up and comers because it'll largely be their show to run. Anyone who works under guys like McVay, Shanahan, and I assume LaFleur if/when he gets a HC job won't get nearly as much control.

I ventured over to the Texans forum this morning and saw this interested quote from ET80 regarding Clowney/Vrabel

"I think it's the lack of Mike Vrabel. Vrabel joined the Texans in 2014, and his official title was "LB Coach" but the fairest title would have been "Handler of JD Clowney". Vrabel was brought in specifically to shepard Clowney - the injuries his first two years stymied that work, but you saw JD develop with Vrabel.

Now that's Vrabel is in Tennessee, Clowney is losing that technique and instinct. It's also why I'm firmly of the belief that Clowney is headed to Tennessee at the end of the season."

Two things. 1)I think Texans fans may have underestimated the loss of Vrabel in regards to player development. 2)I have my doubts that we'd "break the bank" for Clowney but it's an interesting thought process nonetheless.

I don't think Clowney warrants a "break the bank" type deal.

I don't think so either but I feel that he thinks he's worth a contract in the range of the top DL/LB(Mack, Donald, Von Miller, ect.).

And I think there's a team out there that's willing to give him said contract(I'm thinking maybe the 49ers).

Well if he does leave, I’ll miss him running his mouth on their sideline only to hurt his team/get embarrassed. Also, if we did bring him in I assume that would be the end of Rak and/or Morgan as they are both 32 and UFA’s next year. Idk how I would feel about handing him a big contract. He seems like he’s injured a lot and has been very underwhelming for a #1 overall pick...20 sacks in the 3 years he played a meaningful amount of games and 0 sacks in 2 playoff appearances. I don’t watch the Texans unless they play us but I wonder what his deal’s been. Maybe someone can enlighten me

If I remember right, the first few years of his career not only was he missing a lot of time due to injury, but they were having trouble figuring out exactly where to play him in their defense. They started him at OLB, and that wasn't really working for him, so they moved him back to his more natural hand in the dirt type of position at DE. That's where the majority of his success and production has been in his career. It just took them awhile to figure out where they should actually be putting him.

I don't think he is a superstar in this league. He was vastly overrated.

When he's pressured he's just downright bad.

How bout he spent his entire offseason rehabbing & couldn’t find tune his mechanics & maybe isn’t trusting his knee ? just my opinion
