I've seen a few people say it's an easy out after two years though based on what they saw structurally. Y'all said the same with Bortles' contract last year... we can get out of it quickly if we want... Well, technically you could and did... doesn't mean it didn't hurt your cap. At this point it's all assumption... but if you base it off past contracts... go luck at Wilson or Ben's contracts... both signed 4 year 87M contracts. Wilson got 65M guaranteed, Ben got 30M... but both of their SB was 31M. That means that they get about 7.5M of that bonus prorated over the life of the contract. Using these 2 contracts as a base ... can the Jags get out after 2 years? Yeah, sure... but they'll take a 15M cap hit doing so. They'll probably guarantee his first two year's salary as well... and that's where the other $20M of "guarantees" comes from. To be fair (honest/transparent)... the Seahawks and Steelers gave those contracts prior to them hitting FA, so they had the advantage of using that current (aka 5th) year to prorate the SB. The Jags could give a lower signing bonus to make it easier to get out after 2 years. But SBs are also what help teams keep cap hits small at the beginning of contracts... which, without having good insight as to how the Jags' cap really looks like, it looks like they need that relief (aka lower cap hit) right now. For the sake of simplicity... you can give 20M of that contract as a SB, giving him salaries of 7M, 16M, 21M, 25M... that would give cap hits of 11M, 21M, 26M, and 30M, while paying out 27M that first year. They would pay out 43M in those first 2 years (the rest of the guarantee could be for injury only, so they may not owe any more salaries at that point)... but since they've only accumulated 32M... so they take a 9M dead cap hit if cut after 2 seasons ... or if you need to save money now... you can give a SB of 28M, with cap hits of 1M, 15M, 20M, 24M, with cap hits of 8M, 22M, 27M, and 31M, paying out 28M that first year. You can cut him after 2 seasons, having paid 44M... but they only accounted for 30M in cap those first two years... so they'd have 14M in dead cap hits remaining. Those are simplistic examples (no RBs, WBs, LBTEs, NLBTEs, with simple guarantee structure, etc)... but it drives the point home. They save 3M on this year's cap by paying a higher SB (even though they techinically pay him more). but carry a higher per season dead hit potential. Teams in a cap crunch will want more SB or easily restructured salaries/RBs to push cap hits back... and/or players in a position of power will ask for higher SBs because it "protects" them a bit better (a team is more likely to cut a player with only a 9M dead hit instead of 14M). SerenityNow
How badly would we be burning this place to the ground if JRob had $100 Million in cap room, and didn't use it to sign any notable free agents like the Colts have done?

Knowing my team had Andrew Luck, it wouldn’t of mattered as much to me. They needed pass-rushers and the top one got franchised. Probably will just target him next year. I don’t blame them for not going after Bell. Mack is a good RB so no need to overpay for a RB. They’ll probably get Suh.

There wouldn't be w forum left. It would have been locked and burned down. Don't care who th QB is. Lol $100 million with areas that can be improved or depth added, the forum would riot.

Yeah if we were in the Colts spot, most would be complaining about us not spending money and taking advantage of Luck's prime years.
