The Jets and Jamal Adams

Of your 1,176 posts, does every single one consist of you chest-bumping yourself over what the Chiefs have done to earn 1 Super Bowl or am I just happening across all of the right content? It's nauseating.

As for Adams, he seems like the kind of guy who transcends his production on the field. He's an ideal locker room guy and building block for a team. That's the kind of guy you hand a lucrative 2nd contract to and set as an example for the younger guys yearning for the same.

The former, unfortunately.

I know this, Tyran Mathieu at 14M a year for 3 years in his absolute prime was a steal of a contract.

HB has the highest cap hit for any safety this year. He’s T-3rd in AAV (Jackson at 14.6 and Byard at 14.1). We know your shtick, but c’mon.

If the Jets don't lock this man up, I hope the Ravens swoop in. We have all the pieces and we're about to be losing Earl Thomas in a couple of years. The only worry is our cap space right now and also the fact we're about to pay Ronnie Stanley QB money next year and then we have to pay Marlon Humphrey and Lamar after that.

Hate to say it but if we pay Stanley I don't think we will be able to afford Marlon,  especially with Lamar,  Andrews and Orlando coming right up behind them..

I dunno why the jags dont swoop in and get him. They have 2 1st round pics so use one of them(rams) and throw in a 3rd and get an elite safety like pitt did last year.

THe Jets have no cap issue with signing him. They has massive amount of cap space in the upcoming years..

I am still hopeful hes extended.

You were right the first time. But it's typical nouveau riche. That first taste of success, and all of a sudden every player on the team is elite and no other team stands a chance. Bow down.

It seems most Jets fans don’t have realistic expectations for what he would bring back, expecting multiple 1’s lol.. IMO I think he absolutely gets moved. I think he wants more than just the “highest paid safety” mark and I can’t see Joe Douglas overpaying for anyone. I wish we had an indication of what he wants.

Don’t know why he’s already making noise about this now other than to expedite a departure.

Or they want a first and Michael Gallup which is unrealistic as well. Gallup has shown the ability and production that could be a starting receiver for probably more then half the teams in the league.

Gallup is on the cusp of breaking out in a major way with his route savvy and athletic gifts. He's benifited a great deal learning from Coopers elite route running and has been incorporating them into his own.

I have no idea if this is all still just rumor but Gallup right now has shown to be worth a 2nd at the very least.

At this point this seems to be the most logical reasoning, to me. And, if true, does he really think that Dallas is going to hand over a boatload of cash?

Barely made it out alive of the Jets forum with some not too pleased with me suggesting a trade may be possible. Left this in there when they drafted Ashtyn Davis and I'll just leave this here too with possible new trade rumors.

Ashtyn Davis was drafted as a free safety who can play slot corner and will eventually be a Marcus Maye replacement, not an Adams replacement.  At least that was the plan.  Adams is a strong safety with mediocre coverage skills (but many of my delusional Jets fans brothers may try to argue that he is good in coverage, but just watch the tape).  He's an aggressive hitter and excellent in the box and playing a hybrid LB role.  But coverage?  LOL. Not his strong point, no matter what people wearing green tinted shades may try to sell you.  Adams is also narcissist who places himself above everything and everyone, that much is obvious from his posts and his obsession with twitter.  He has a 4th year left on his rookie contract and the Jets have exercised the 5th year option.  He's got no say for 2 years other than on social media.  With Covid-19 revenue losses, the salary cap will likely go down in the next year and it would be amazingly stupid for the Jets to give him a contract now without knowledge of the salary cap implications in 2021.  If Jamal doesn't like it, then too freaking bad.  It will take a pair of 1st rounders or a 1st + 2nd to get him right now.  Nobody is going to pay that...  even for the league's best box-safety.  He wants to be paid upwards of $17 million per season or more.  Here are the highest paid safeties in the league right now.  Look at their ages.  Jamal is going to have to wait at least one year and maybe 2 to get to the top of this list.

I don't think that's the issue at all. I think the Jets stance is he has 2 years left on his contract so they are in no rush, and also they are reluctant to throw huge money right now with uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.

I think if they offered to make him the highest paid safety he would be good with it. And its going to take a lot for the Jets to trade him, they had a offer for a 1st before and declined. They don't want to just give him away. They want to extend him, but the timing right now is bad.

The media has nothing else to talk about so they are trying to dig around for some drama.  I do think Adams wants to get paid as soon as possible, like a lot of star players who fear that they will get injured before they get that big contract.

The Jets drafted a safety that could replace Maye, showing that they may not extend Maye. They have done nothing to replace Adams, clearly their mindset is they want to keep him.  Ashytn Davis is a center field type safety, he is not a box safety.

And I disagree with the poster who said Adams has mediocre coverage skills. He may not get tons of INTs, but he can cover. Hes not one of those box safeties who can't cover. He makes tons of plays on the ball, just hasn't been a guy who makes INTs.
