Elky
If Belichick manages to win another Super Bowl with Stidham, would that improve his chances?
VonKarman
Just name the COTY award as the Belichick Award.

lavar703
No. The Lombardi is synonymous with Super Bowl Champion.

Mr Raider
3 hours ago, VonKarman said: Just name the COTY award as the Belichick Award. This I wouldn't mind, but you don't change the name of the trophy that's synonymous with winning the super bowl for like 50 years. You can consider Bill the greatest coach of all time if you'd like, but his status as the greatest coach at the time (and maybe still today) is not the only reason why Lombardi had the trophy named after him. It's also the impact he had on turning the game into the most popular sport in the world, it's beyond just his skill its his cultural and historical impact on the sport. At best you have this conversation after he's retired and been away for a couple years. Just seems wrong to name the ultimate prize after a guy that still currently coaching lol.
Jakuvious
Nah. Name something new or currently unnamed after him? Fine. But it would be incredibly unnecessarily disrespectful to take that credit away from Lombardi.

SnoopDogg
It's a big no from me. Lombardi was seen as the greatest at the time and that's why the Super Bowl trophy is named after him. Winning "The Lombardi" sounds a lot better than winning "The Belichick"
lancerman
Lombardi tragically died due to illness 3 years after his 2nd Super Bowl. It was very sudden and the trophy was named after him largely as a memorial. Belichick would HATE the thought of it
Soko
Negative. It’s a tradition, football lore at this point. An homage to a pioneer. No reason to change it, as great as Bill is.
candyman93
There’s no way BB would sign off on it. He has too much respect for the NFLs tradition. Name the COTY after him.
